Asiel was birthed into a Shadow clan with a sister and a brother. His parents were aloof with him, never quite cruel, but never quite caring. They often left their children with the lazy caretaker of their clan, who the three mischievous escaped easily, and often. They relied on one another more than any of them realized. Closer than most siblings, they were inseparable.

The skirmish in the southern Shadow territories hadn't left them unscathed as their leader had predicted. In fact, it came to their front doors. The females hid with the children as the fit males went out to fight. Asiel looks back on this memory with a sort of sadness, knowing that plenty of the mothers and other females would have been able to hold off many of the attackers.
It was this day that Asiel lost everyone but his mother.

He convinced his siblings that they had to go help fight for their clan, and they readily agreed. His brother was loath to agree to the youngest in their lot, but he already had the same idea, so off they went. Everyone was too nervous, even their own mother, to notice three missing hatchlings.
They squirmed their way in through the back, and were trying to reach the front of the pack. Everything was going well until the enemy suddenly surged, causing the whole defending force to retreat. His sister and brother were trampled underneath terrified dragon feet.

Under siege, their leader made a rash decision. Their clan would move to the Scarred Wasteland. It was as the group was leaving that Asiel realized that his father was missing. He panicked and left to go find him.

He searched all the places he normally would be, careful to avoid the monsters who had driven him away from his own home. He couldn't find him anywhere, and came to a sorrowful conclusion: his father was dead.

He ran back to his clan to be comforted by his mother, only to be greeted by an almost worse sight. His clan had left without him. All those that he had known for his short life had disappeared in under an hour, without a trace. The dragons that had done this were crashing through the brambles that his clanmates had set up to defend camp, once upon a time. Lost in a spiral of fear and sadness, he fled the graveyard.

Asiel was scared and in denial as he flew to the Scarred Wastelands, planning on searching for his clan. He couldn't make it to the heart of the territory like he had planned, instead collapsed along the border in a weeping, howling mess.

Soon enough, a female Coatl came across him, with her son and two daughters. Her heart melted at the sight of such a depressed Spiral and took him in.

And so she raised him. He rarely saw anyone other than her, as the clan would not allow for a dragon running from war to join their ranks, as they were afraid it would bring the war to them. He grew up alone, quiet and sad.

When he was old enough to go on his own, he told her that he was planning on leaving. She tearfully embraced him, and brought the children he had seen on the first day of coming but not since to wave him goodbye. The only brother of the two sisters, named Azael, offered his hand in friendship, and asked if he could join him. He agreed, for he saw a potential in the dragon, a sort of energy that seemed to be pulsating just below the surface. He certainly wasn't expecting the bond that formed that was stronger than blood, stronger than love, and stronger than fear. The two were more than friends, more than best friends, even more than mates. They supported each other when times were rough and encouraged each other through daily activities. It was one night when they were camping out in Light territory that Asiel came forth with an idea that he had been bouncing around in his head for awhile: starting their own clan.

Asiel had Azael's full support. The two decided to start their clan right where they were. And so, Chronomaly was born.

Asiel is a quiet and sad dragon. When he smiles, his eyes always hold the hint of sorrow that all but Azael miss. His heart cannot afford to take in another dragon to only have another hole pierced through it. He knows and tries his best to love his clanmates, but it is hard for him, knowing that they all will pass one day. However, he seems to be able put a smile on any dragon's face, no matter how dark is the path they walk. He always finds a way to put them on the right road.

He never tells anyone his troubles, not even Azael. When he feels like he is falling into his worn pit of despair, he hides himself, and thinks everything over. Sometimes, tears are shed, but he prefers to keep everything inside, in a small bottle.

Unlike most of his species, Asiel is never excited. He always talks in a slow, flimsy breath of a sigh, as if he is scared to speak louder. The only time when his voice is raised and emotion is flowing into it is when he is giving a speech to his clan. Otherwise, sadness mars his voice to a whisper that could be blown away by the slightest wind.

He handles all the dark sides of the clan: banishings, accusations, and war. He never lets Azael in on this. He wants his friend to live in a perfect society, where worry never plagues him. He drives himself over the edge most times, but he never shows it to Azael. He lets his friend live in the bliss of not knowing how over-worked he is.

Whenever Azael wants something, it will either "mysteriously appear" at the front of his lair, or Asiel will give it to him himself. It isn't as if Azael specifically asks Asiel to get something for him, the Spiral just does.

Overall, Asiel is a good leader. He cares for each of his clanmates, but isn't biased towards anyone, excluding Azael, of course. He gives speeches when hearts are low, and helps the spirit to keep moving when peace reigns over his jointly-shared clan.

w0tTrmx.png The fire crackled between Asiel and Azael. The Spiral fidgeted slightly, drawing closer to the blanket of warmth that rolled off the flame in waves. He opened his mouth to say something, then closed it, rethinking. Azael noticed this and asked, "What's wrong, Asiel?"

Asiel looked down at his claws that rested in the coils of his ropy body. "Nothing's wrong... I was just thinking."

The Coatl laughed, and the sound warmed Asiel's heart. "Imagine that!" He teased, feigning shock.

"Har har," Asiel replied affectionately. He fell silent. The quiet ruled the group for a moment before Azael spoke up.

"Asiel?"

"Yeah?"

"What were you going to say?"

Asiel looked up at him in mild surprise. The dragon, as much as he loved him, was not the best listener, especially when it came to serious matters. "Well..." Asiel began, already regretting it, "this is going to sound stupid and improbable, but... what if we started a clan together?"

Azael gazed into the fire, unusually quiet. His brow was furrowed in concentration that he normally didn't display. He whispered a word so quietly that Asiel had to ask him to repeat what he had said.

His eyes, once trained on the fire, traveled up to Asiel's. "I said, yes."

A strong heart and sturdy quest
Yet darkness festers inside him
Every day he gives his best
Every day he's given stress
He locks away his thoughts
And turns to Azael with distraught

I'm drowning, sinking, far away
Disconnected, each day turns grey
I smile, a facade, for my clan
I can't remember who I am
I've fallen victim to depressions' prey

Then I see you, my trusted friend
You keep my soul afloat and soaring
On you I know I can depend
Even when the clouds start pouring
Even when day sets into night
You open my eyes to the light
And I know
We will be alright.
