Biography
"The crone implied that such lines and curves
were frequently used at certain midnight meetings in the dark valley. Then she drew those devices on the walls of her cell and vanished, as did all of the witch hunters." |
Keziah's ramshackle wooden house is tilted at odd angles, as she is learned in occult geometry and can perform magical calculations that allow her to travel interdimensionally. Long ago, witch hunters imprisoned Keziah for the unexplained disappearances near her hovel. During her trial, the pearlcatcher spoke of "lines and curves that could be made to point out directions leading through the walls of space to other spaces beyond...." and when she later disappeared mysteriously from gaol, enigmatic curves and angles were found smeared on the grey stone walls with some red, sticky fluid. Keziah reappeared years later in a different part of the forest and the strange occurrences resumed, but this time none of the locals were brave enough to oppose her, giving her territory a wide berth instead.
The intricate mathematical sorcery of moving between dimensions was shared with her by the Haunter of the Darkness, a powerful and malevolent avatar of the Crawling Chaos, Nyarlathotep. But that knowledge came at a price; all who seek the wisdom of the Outer Gods must sign the Book of Azathoth with their own blood. Those who do this swear eternal allegiance to the Dark Ones, and are obligated to serve them until the end of days.
Required to make offerings for the blasphemous powers that they receive, acolytes of Nyarlathotep must provide souls on May Eve and All Hallows Night every year. Keziah has two minions to help with her grisly duties; the rat-like abomination Brown Jenkin - her familiar with the ability to pass messages between herself and the Dark Ones, and Voormis - the infamous cult leader whom she can recall from the dimension where he is exiled to do her bidding.
Once secured, their victims are taken to the Thorndark Altar for eldritch sacrificial rites, hidden by the Haunter of the Darkness, who waits to feast on the proffered spirit. With their power then secured for another few months, Keziah, Voormis and Brown Jenkin can continue their campaign of horrror, all dimensions open to them as they revel in their ill-gotten magic.
