Biography
Flying. Capella was soaring above the clouds like a comet falling from the heavens. The stars danced with her, and she needed nothing in this moment. What did her parents’ disapproval matter when the very night sky cloaked her in majesty?
But all comets must eventually fall, and so she did.
She fell in love.
He was disarmingly handsome, and his tongue, when used to full effect, was like the finest of silver. Capella could not help but obey whatever he said. No longer did she fly in the night sky. That time was better spent attending him, fulfilling his desires. Whatever he wanted, she did as well.
He convinced her that her Fae form was ugly, and to please him, she changed her form into a Pearlcatcher’s.
They made plans to elope together. She spent every waking moment thinking of him, and when she finally tore her longing eyes away, her dreams were filled with his face.
The night of their elopement, Capella flew for the first time in months, and with a new type of wings to boot. He laughed at her attempts to take off and land. It was a cruel laugh, full of derision, and she began to wonder if coming had been the right choice, but he flashed her a grin and all was forgotten.
Her new life was not at all what she had expected. Instead of flowers, her new mate brought home his rowdy friends. Instead of jewels, he brought home bills, each one grimace-worthy.
Capella’s doubts came back, and again she began to think that she had made the wrong choice. She thought of leaving, but where would she go? Who would provide for her?
So she stayed, growing frailer and thinner with each passing day. Her magic began to fade until it was just a shadow of its former power. Capella found it harder and harder to even get up in the mornings, and oftentimes, she slept in her lair until the afternoons.
She dreamt of flying high as the vaulted ceiling of the sky, its blueness silky soft beneath her clawtips. For the first time in a long while, Capella felt warm.
One night, she crept away from their lair. Her wings were unsteady at first, and she plummeted like a stone before slowly creeping upwards again.
Every night she did this, and eventually, her magic came back. Her body filled out again, and her smile was brighter than the stars of the night sky.
Capella’s mate began spending more time away, to her great joy. She began to talk with a Nocturne named Aleos, who was one of her mate’s acquaintances. In him she found a kindred spirit.
When her mate died, it was Aleos who she wept upon. Though the pairing had been loveless, she still remembered their days together with fondness.
And it was Aleos who became her new mate.
She changed her form again, this time to a Skydancer, to soar more freely in the skies she so loved. Aleos fully supported her, and told her that she had become even more beautiful than before.
At last, Capella was happy.
