Introduction
The proud Count Karamat was born along outskirts of the Crystalspine Reaches as a hatchling Mirror, wandering alone and defenseless until found by his foster parents, Auraelesmatra and Satoragdos, who were traveling in the Arcane region. They took him under their great wings and raised him to become the decorated dragon he is today.

Wishing to become more like his foster parents in physical form, Karamat tirelessly sought out a Imperial breed change scroll for several decades, but was never able to get any leads on the whereabouts of this rare item. He eventually settled with becoming the next best thing: a Pearlcatcher.

He is as critical and pretentious as Pearlcatchers tend to be, especially after introducing himself to many Pearlcatcher circles over the years. However, his innate Mirror savagery has made him an outlier amongst his new breed kin. Pearlcatchers are cowardly, but Karamat has proven himself to be outstandingly brave when assuming authorative positions. His bite is worse than his bark, and anyone who dare challenge him never walk away unscathed.

Career and Identity
Kanzaburo feels most comfortable donning his kumadori; particularly that of the mukimi guma style — a pattern used for young and handsome heroes. He will state that putting on his makeup is like putting on his real face; in fact, it's rare to see him without his distinctive kumadori.

While the Ridgeback has played a variety of heroic and villainous roles throughout his blooming career, his very best performances lie in bringing lovestruck characters to life. His dedication to kabuki has impressed many theatre-goers, and even caught the attention of the lovely Guardian Besijana. Whenever this gorgeous lady attends his performances, he seems to hold himself more gracefully and thoughtfully... almost as though he were communicating his affections for her. And Besijana would return the gesture with adoring gazes.

Love & Family
His airy, haughty personality puts him at odds with equally imperious characters, but especially with Besijana's mother Briar when they finally meet in person. Although Briar has accepted Kanzaburo as her daughter's mate (and by extension, part of the family), his pride buckles under the sheer weight of her scrutinization. If Kanzaburo claims any of his traits to be a godsend, Briar will have something to say about it.

By stark contrast, Kanzaburo gets along much better with Besijana's stepfather Golshan, who encouraged his stepdaughter to seduce the flamboyant Ridgeback.

Family reunions will often consist of Besijana happily conversing with her family... while Kanzaburo sulks in the corner for as long as Briar is present. It takes some coaxing from Besijana (and requesting Briar to hold her tongue) to have him join the dining table.

Hobbies
Kanzaburo is a connoisseur of seafood fine dining and will treat Besijana to all his favorite restaurants during their downtime. He developed his palette while traveling abroad and immersing himself in the cultures of other flights, especially Water and, strangely, Plague.

He also loves fishkeeping, and will favor the most vibrant fish he can collect for his personal aquariums. If his clan's fishers haul in anything he deems too beautiful to eat, he will "rescue" the specimen from a fate on a dinner plate. The clan will often jest that this is why they seem to be short on seafood at all times.

Trivia

᛫ Kanzaburo is a Japanese name meaning "healthy third son." Named after a famous kabuki actor.

᛫ Okuni (Kanzaburo's familiar) is named after Izumo no Okuni, a shrine maiden and the founder of kabuki.
