"Sovereign of the Night and Whisperer of Distant Suns."
Matriarch to The Radiant Sect
═══════════════════════════════════════════════════════
Despite her matriarchal duties, Pendelus remains a rather elusive figure, shy in nature, she favours the much quieter life of art and study. Initially only taken on the role to support her then crush, now wife.

Diplomacy, though aligning with her morally, is itself not something she particularly enjoys taking a lead role in; carrying a great distaste for all the formalities that come along with it.

Despite this, Pendelus remains a strong and dedicated leader. Having fashioned herself a regal façade to hide her misgivings; a falsehood that only her wife, Alusair, can see through.

⊰ ○ ⊱

Though completely benign, many find Pendelus rather intimidating, even frightening. Regarding her quiet demeanor with wary suspicion, after all, a smile is not something often seen upon her public face.

Being mindful of her job, Pendelus is often the one who has to make up for her wifes' overly generous nature, making her appear more strict and cruel in comparison.

And even though Pendelus does indeed hold great value in her wife's' efforts to aid others, her own natural introversion often hinders her abilities to do so herself. Her inner demons, that have plagued her since youth, continue to eat away at her mind and soul.

Pendelus' birth was not of usual circumstance. Her mother was born to a proud Imperial bloodline; one that steadfastly remained pure to the Light. Harbouring prejudice towards those neighbouring in the shadows and beyond. Believing them to be nothing but a culmination of everything their flight stood against. As extremists, the clan wanted to keep their bloodlines pure, and as proud children of the Lightweaver, they wished to forever maintain their mothers’ image.

However, Pendelus’ birth mother, young and impulsive as she was, had an affair with a dragon of shadow. The act was severely frowned upon, but when it resulted in the birth of a child, Pendelus herself quickly became the target of such bigotry as well. The blue feathers on her hide were seen as nothing short an abomination—and a constant reminder of her mothers' indignity. Ashamed, the clan resented her; pushing even her own mother to detest her. Eventually, with no choice left, she fled her birth home.

⊰ ○ ⊱

Alone and afraid, she did not know which flight to turn to. The deep blue of her hide was a source of shame, having been conditioned that they were a nothing but a disgrace to a dragon of light. Yet she remained apprehensive to embrace the shadow, as her skin held an unusual property that made them twinkling when shrouded in darkness. Her scales and feathers were naturally an iridescent night-time hue. The stars and constellations that marked them only appeared after a day spent under natural light. And while the stars remained a constant glow, the constellations shifted in tandem with the rotation of the night sky.

Embarrassed, she dreaded any attention they might bring her, choosing then to don a cloak and guise to suppress her natural features.

⊰ ○ ⊱

Taken to the woods and all its creatures, she decided to live in complete isolation. Her only outings were to local marketplaces, whenever her inventory demanded it of her. Yet despite the enduring apprehension she once experienced towards such ventures, she would forever count her blessings for them. As it was on one such trip that she met her now friend and mate for life, Alusair.

Immediately taken by her beauty, Pendelus was flustered by the other Imperials presence, finding both difficulty and ease in speaking with her. Though her jovial cordiality, Alusair had somehow convinced the other Imperial to return to her home in the Light. Speaking of hopes and dreams to one day found a place that dragons could come together and help one another. If Pendelus has been speaking honestly, she would have said such ideals were nothing but that—ideals. Perhaps influenced by the Imperials enthusiasm, Pendelus accompanied Alusair back home, where they began their efforts to establish such a thing. Though she never had, or ever would entirely share the others feverous passion for the project, Pendelus was indeed content with helping her reach her goals. Having for the first time in her life, found a purpose, and a way out of the dark hole she had buried herself into.

⊰ ○ ⊱

To this day, Alusair remains reliable constant in her life; a Dragon she is able to turn to and find solace in moments of heightened emotional stress. Inspired by Alusair inexhaustible compassion; Pendelus can’t help but notice her improved mental state when around her. Something she wholly credits Alusair for, yet who is quick to dispute the claim, insisting it is Pendelus who has in fact worked hard to improve herself.

Now with a child, Pendelus is finally at peace with her place in the world. Though her doubts have left her, her anxieties remain. Scars of one’s past are not so easily healed, but she continues to work hard, as a mother and matriarch.

_______light_3.png Pendelus lounged in their room, the distant sound of the ocean crashing on the cliffs giving the afternoon a surreal feeling. It was quiet. Peaceful. With a hot cut of tea and a good book out in front of her, Pendelus felt the stress draining out of her.

The week had been stressful, to say the least. Yet this planned little holiday was just what she and Alusair needed to rest. Despite this one-day vacation, however, Alusair and had made herself scarce since that morning. Perhaps the day had given her more energy than Pendelus predicted, and spending it cooped up in a room was not ideal.
_____
_____ Their energy was obtained from different sources. Pendelus found peace and comfort during the night, when the moonlight gave her a peaceful sort of energy. Alusair, on the other hand, found herself charged by the sun. Although the moon could be enough to sustain her, nothing could compare to the sunlight's warmth.

Despite this different, Pendelus and Alusair always found time to spend time together. And days like this were rare and cherished. Perhaps that was why Pendelus felt unfulfilled by the quiet and the book. Her wife wasn't with her, enjoying this peaceful day. Before Pendelus could come to the conclusion to look for Alusair, the door to their shared room opened and, there she was, in her stunning beauty with a kind smile on her face.

“Hello,” she said in her usual chipper voice. “How are you doing?”

“I'm fine,” Pendelus responded, putting a bookmark in her book and closing it. She gave Alusair her undivided attention. “I was beginning to wonder where you went.”

“Nowhere special.” Alusair smiled, her innocent smile. Pendelus felt her eyes narrow in suspicion.

“I see.”

“Although, I was wondering, would you like to join me this evening towards the cliffs? Before dusk, would be preferred.”

Pendelus felt something deep in her chest move in admiration at the way Alusair was looking at her. Full of hope and joy. She glowed like the sun, although Pendelus would go as far as to say Alusair was more glorious than that orb of light.

“It would be my pleasure.”

Alusair gave a happy hum and spun out of the room, leaving Pendelus alone once again. This time, the quiet was more peaceful and welcomed. It had a warm tone to it that made Pendelus relax, even with a quiver of excitement in her stomach. She opened her book again and continued reading, keeping an eye on the time and the sun outside.

The evening had arrived faster than Pendelus had anticipated. She had quickly gotten herself ready and made her way out towards the cliffs, noting the particularly clear sky and songbirds. The sun itself was beginning to set along the horizon of the ocean, casting a soft and glorious light along the sea. On the other side of the sky, the stars began to appear. A perfect mixture of night and day only occurred twice, during dusk and dawn. Already, with the night approaching and the stars appearing, Pendelus could feel some of her energy returning to her. It was not much, but it was enough to make her feel more energized and ready for whatever it was Alusair had planned.

Dinner by the fading light of the sun and the approaching glow of the moon was not something Pendelus had predicted. She sat down next to Alusair, eyeing the prepared food laid out and the drinks. They had a perfect view of the ocean. It was silent save for the crashing waves and fading birdsong. They were secluded in this natural beauty.

“Surprise!” Alusair said with a certain trill in her voice. She handed Pendelus a drink. “I figured we could both use some time alone today, but I wanted us feeling our best.”
Pendelus nodded.

“It's lovely, darling,” she said, looking at the approaching night.

They were both being energized. Not as much as the respective day and night could help them, but enough where it was equal and spread. At least for a few moments.

They sat close, sharing each other's warmth and company. After a few moments of silence, Pendelus looked over to Alusair.

“How long have you been planning this?”

“A few weeks. I've been looking forward to this day off for ages! I was so excited when it finally came. I was down in the kitchen for most of it, making sure the food preparation went over well.” She smiled. “I'm very pleased with how it turned out, if I do say so myself.”

“You should be,” Pendelus replied with a soft tone. “Thank you. It's nice to just be for a while, without the stress of leading.”

“I agree. How often do we just stop and breathe? Not enough, I think. But we have right now, and we have each other. I think that's good enough for the moment.”
Pendelus leaned her head on Alusair. “Yes. It is enough.”

They fell into a comfortable silence, enjoying their dinner and the view of the ocean now sparkling with the fading light of the sun but the approaching glow of the moon. Tomorrow would be busy, but tonight was calm and peaceful. It was what they both needed. Some time together. A chance to catch their breath. A moment to simply be.

Knowledge is a tricky thing,
Which we all acquire differently,
As it was with the time three,
Each one fading into reality.

One whom is dark as night,
Overcoming her past a constant fight,
But she carries a little light,
With her lover by her side.

Told she was darkness,
Told she was madness,
Told she was worthless,
But it wasn't true, as she realized
That darkness had its own stars, too.

It seemed destiny,
That the second of the three
Would be shining for eternity,
In her eyes and coat of dawn’s new things,
Knowledge and love she seeks,
Found with a great melody.

She felt trapped, in her own home.
She felt trapped, with what she always had known,
She felt trapped, without more knowledge to own.
She set out with only good things in mind; came back
as the greatest of time,
with a shadow that follows,
that she loves with all her might.

Last of the three, was always a blessing,
Completely the happy family,
Loved and lover for everything,
She was all in-between.

But she wouldn't stay still, longing for some fun.
But she couldn't stay still, longed for the sun.
But she simply couldn't stay still, longed to run.
She could learn lickity-split, but it wouldn't be crammed with only a place to sit, she got to learn from dazzling experience.

They were the sun, the moon,
And everything between,
They were the grandest of all families.

A tale spun through the nighttime,
when lanterns begin to die,
of the shade that flits in darkness:
the whispering, watchful eye.

For though the sun may govern here,
eternally aglow,
its light is pale and water-thin
without its matching shadow.

Her song is heard in twilight,
a soft and sad refrain,
echoing with spirits
of long-remembered pain.

Yet through the caverns of the soul
that gape endlessly on,
she followed her own fateful path
and found the breaking dawn.

Astride the moon, she travels
in the soothing rush of night,
weaving spells to guide the way
in constellations' light.

Listen to the whispers,
and forget bitter, jealous lies.
Hushed words can shift the very world,
and secret flames burn bright.
