Biography

Owner of the #1 most boopable snoot
Role: Environmental adviser

When creating such a large lair out of Fae amber, an enormous amount of tree sap is needed. Nuzzle's expertise is essential to making sure that the surrounding ecosystem stays healthy even as trees are harvested for sap and land is cleared for lair space. After all, no one wants to put such immense time and effort into creating a lair only to find it unlivable due to lack of nearby gathering resources.

Ironically enough, Nuzzle didn't get this role because he particularly cares about the environment. Nuzzle couldn't care less if all fish, animals, and edible plants in the area completely disappeared. He wouldn't care much about the insects either, if not for the fact that he eats those.

Nuzzle got this role due to his odd hobby of creating tree maps. These are carefully hand-drawn, intricate maps detailing... the location of trees. Significant features like landmarks, major structures, or dramatic terrain are marked as a vague afterthought at most. Nuzzle wants to note the locations of trees and only trees. He's constantly making new maps of the same areas, sometimes spending weeks re-creating an old map in exacting detail just to record a single tree falling.

This made Nuzzle the obvious candidate to ask about tree-related things, and eventually things related to the health of the surrounding environment in general. Knowing he'd have to eventually pull his weight somehow, giving conservation advice seemed like the easiest way to both pursue his hobby and to pretend he was doing real work.

Nuzzle has no idea how valuable his help is to the clan, and has the idea that he's somehow fooled everyone into thinking he's more helpful than he actually is. He would feel bad about this normally, but he can't manage to feel guilty over something that lets him spend all day making tree maps and leaf imprints.

Nuzzle seems constantly distracted, only half his mind (at best) on any given conversation. You'll ask something and he'll ramble on, meandering far away from the point of the conversation, seemingly oblivious to the fact that his answer was completely irrelevant. It doesn't matter if you asked him about his life story or if he's seen where your mammertee plush went, you'll get an equally uninformative answer regardless. The only exception to this is if you ask him about local trees, in which case you really should not have done that. Be prepared to spend the next hour of your life trying to escape a barrage of tree facts.

Nuzzle will sometimes mention in passing that he is, in fact, a tree himself. No one has been able to figure out if he means that in a "Trees are the life-blood of the world" way, a "I relate to trees and feel similar to them" way, or a "I'm a crazy dragon who thinks they're literally a plant" way.

Nuzzle is unusually small even by Fae standards. He has to take great care to avoid being shoved, stepped on, or knocked over by larger dragons who don't even realize he's there.

The nature sprite

Nuzzle doesn't really consider this creature his familiar. He has never understood the idea of familiars, or pets. Considering how much time he spends alone making his tree maps, Nuzzle might not even really understand the point of having friends.

It was the sprite that first approached Nuzzle, seeming greatly interested in some of his maps and leaf imprints. It's possible that the sprite mistook Nuzzle for a dragon genuinely interested in the environment.

Though the sprite isn't capable of speaking any real language, it and Nuzzle are commonly seen 'arguing' about aspects of various maps. They debate often over scale, exact tree placement, leaf detail and color, tree size, exactly which plants count as trees, how to best mark saplings, and other similar subjects. Or at least, that's what Nuzzle says. It's hard to tell if he genuinely understands the sprite, or if he just loves to debate so much that he makes up topics.

The fact that Nuzzle isn't more interested in the sprite is a source of frustrating for some other dragons. Such sprites are incredibly rare to see and even rarer to bond with. It seems almost a waste for Nuzzle to be the dragon this one has attached itself to.
