Biography

DIGGORY
[ arcane • singer ]

patron of galaxies | playful, arrogant, ambitious

Young dragons, those who have no memory of the times before, may think that the Arcanist is peerless. He was born into creation, but also death, a charred and hollow ground beyond even the likes the Plaguebringer could touch. The most rare of stories tell that not just the Arcanist was born from the explosion. The freed souls of the mortals surrounding the contraption were released at once, twisting about themselves in the aether and attempting to crawl back to their bodies — though nothing remained, and their lingering spirits formed a terrible, incorporeal Emperor. The behemoth stood grander than any imperial with smoky flesh like pure light and wings as cold and dauntless as the night sky. As the Arcanist awoke from his cradle, the Emperor had already fled to the heavens, whereupon dragonkind bestowed them the name Astronomer, the starseeker. The gods soon realized that the Arcanist was of their kind: he bore an element, his own life-granting force. The Astronomer, however, was blasphemous; they neither communed with the deities nor contained an element, and simply seemed to float bitter in the heavens. Some days they would draw their wings close and bleach Sorneith with the sun, and others they would fan out, deepening the world into darkness. Their presence was ominous and promised a second great war on the horizon. Thus it was the gods who dragged the Astronomer from the heavens, rending their body and splitting their six great heads apart to each plummet down to earth.

Diggory was exiled to an island spit among the seas, whereupon he found something far greater than his father's throne: the Crown of the True King. With the Shade's power he is determined to absorb the strength of a thousand dragons — and then nothing will stop him from crowning himself the king of a place far greater than the Isles.
