Askan is the eldest of the Plaguebringer's scourge across Sornieth, sprung to consciousness deep in the Cairnstone Rest. From his birth, he felt it was his calling to pursue this path of destruction, and laid to rest the fallen life in its wake. It was early in his life he met his Brother who fed upon the deceased as Askan would bury them. Bound together by the Plaguebringer's essence, they paid became inseparable: Askan the pensive mourner, and Kartik the cruel ender. Despite how opposing they are, Askan is deeply admiring of his younger brother and his strength. Over the centuries, mortals have come to view them as intrinsically linked forces, each side of bereavement. They are often found on abandoned battlefields or within graveyards taking the form of massive bogsneaks yet moving as silently as ghosts. Their paths are often guided (to Katrik's chagrin) by Askan's other brethren, to travel to where mortals' souls need them the most.

Askan's summon is a carrioncorn called Pestilence: a gaunt undead mare who will often remain to graze around graveyards after he's departed. Mortal legends say if her coat is ever touched, the offender will fall deathly ill; though if part of her mane or tail is given freely, it can be used to craft a most vile poison.
