Biography
RIVERE
[ wind • warden ]
patron of north winds | confident, paranoid, assertive
[ wind • warden ]
patron of north winds | confident, paranoid, assertive
The four winds are told to be the Windsinger's first creations, born as strands of energy alongside the Stormcatcher that mingled with the crackling magic in the atmosphere. They are thus spoken of as each representing a cardinal direction: the cold northern winds that follow the Icewarden, the sapping southern winds that follow the Plaguebringer, the soothing western winds that follow the Gladekeeper, and the violent eastern winds that follow the Stormcatcher. Such parentage is merely rumored, however, and in some legends they are considered all the children of the Windsinger and Tidelord, or of the Stormcatcher himself. For the most ancient of primordials, their origins matter less to them than to the mortals who attempt to make sense of their existence. The winds themselves are known to be particularly elusive and fickle towards dragonkind, and view such small lives as insignificant and inconsequential against the massive power of the air.
Rivere, deemed the Wind Warden by those who dare not use her common name, has most often found her home among the Icefields where she is regarded as a minor deity to those lost in the snow. The further south one wanders, the better they can feel her might: her blood still remembers the bite of the Tidelord, and she bears down frigid squalls to those arrogant enough to contest the Icewarden. While she and the god are not companions by any means, he tolerates her presence akin to how he may tolerate an eternal mountain upon his land's surface. She has made herself a denizen predominantly among the crags, though such sightings of her are few and far between, chiefly due to her haunting and paranoid nature that never allows her to linger for long. Across the centuries of her existence, she has taken many forms to mimic dragonkind. Rivere is not satisfied with their natural lack of form like her dreaded easterly brother and is depicted in a variety of ways, but never lacking the antlered skull covering her face. Long times ago speak of a city she ruled, back when she wished to make peace with dragonkind. It has since fallen into ruin, though the relics and secrets that lie within are guarded well by the biting winds.
One constant appears to be her trysts with the southern wind, with whom she has born children since the dawn of their creation. Her distaste for actually raising these clutches have left most of their legacy to perish within the snow — but there are some who prevail, choked with a sense of wandering and mystery as they find their place among other clans. While perhaps their wind-bound heritage does not reveal itself in their generation, undoubtedly being born of primordial parents will unfold itself eventually. Even beyond her southern lover, Rivere is known to consort with other primordials, children of the gods, and mortals alike. She has a particular fondness for Vela, Nijah, and Hansin, as well as the Arcanist's wandering student, though with Raen it is only rarely returned.
otherworldly, solid one second and liquid the next, the thing that goes bump in the night.
