The Poet

Though you aren't quite sure how, you are pleased to find yourself wandering into what seems like a massive underground terrarium. A huge cavern filled to the brim with ancient oak trees, their branches reaching towards an unreachable sky. Flora and fauna fill the landscape, bright blossoms of gold being most prominent. A symphony of frogs harmonized with the hissing of tree snakes, and--for some odd reason--a soft furred mainecoon weaves through your legs with a quiet purr. You follow the cat into the brush, soon finding yourself in a hollow--a soft green tundra is curled in the center, humming as he braids his thick mane. "And then my heart with pleasure fills, And dances with the daffodils." The tundra suddenly pauses in his song, looking up as the cat jumps in his lap. He smiles, "Greetings, welcome to my home. I'm Gulfam, and you're likely to see Sumrokul around here too." |

Origins
|
Gulfam was seemingly born into an insignificant life. His mother and father were not famous dragons, his ancestory was average, and his apperance was mundane greens. However, he was not lacking in energy; most of Gulfam's days were spent wandering in the wide open plains of the Windswept Plateu, so much so that Arda appointed a Fungi Sage to accompany the hatchling. Despite the fact that most if not all of Arda's children never intended to stay in the clan--Gulfam included--the tundra cared deeply for her children and looked after them with great care. So, when the tiny hatchling kept getting lost, Arda suggested to the Sage that they begin making maps for his wanderings, which Gulfam eagerly began to do. Many of his maps were filled with annotations on what he saw--the birds, frogs, snakes, and other creatures around him, while he liked the frogs best. However, he always felt like something was missing, though he could never articulate what beyond "It smells empty". That hole in his life was filled when a huge, haggard, almost skeletal guardian burst into his hatchery, declaring him his charge with a ragged voice. Almost the instant he caught the beasts scent, he felt whole, the empty smell suddenly blossoming into a warm, earthy scent of a forest. It wasn't hard for Gulfam to leave his nestclan two days later, following the injured guardian to his home after he introduced himself as Sumrokul. Interestingly enough, Sumrokul addressed him as Kaymahka--Gulfam frankly didn't mind. When they arrived at the Galestorm Flyers a week later, Sumrokul set to work on carving out and securing a massive cavern to call their home, offering the space to Gulfam to do what he pleased with. Gulfam immediately decided to build an entire forest there--and he did, with the help of Shivani and Razbi. Here, he resides with Sumrokul, building his woods ever richer and honing his skills as a woodsman.
Author's note:
Though it is not confirmed, many of the mages have theorized that Gulfam is what they call a Forest Spirit--a reincarnation of the woods that claimed the land eons ago. Sumrokul had once protected those woods as his Charge, hence his insistance on Gulfam's name. No one has the heart to say anything different--watching the guardian waste away was too painful, even for me. ~Midnight |

Personality
Gulfam, though not a poet by trade, has been known to have the classic poet disposition. Soft-hearted but ever curious about the world, Gulfam is a caring dragon who spends most of his time tending to the plants and animals within his terrarium lair, observing how they live. He enjoys keeping woodbound journals on his observation and will often scribble bits of poetry in the margins, which he has been known to sing softly to the cat he keeps with him. Within his forests, Gulfam seems almost constantly tranquil, slipping through the trees with such grace he has been called "The Willow Ghost", braiding his mane with clovers, placing mushrooms on his shoulders. He welcomes all that enter his lair with a soft voice and quiet words, the gentlest smile always present on his face, his cat usually hidden in his fur. This is what dragons see in him most often--a sense of peace, content with life, never upset with where he is now. He values it all; the friendships he kindeled with Shivani and Razbi, the comradery with Zandrys, the family he has with Sumrokul, the gentle familiarity with the Fungi Sage he still cannot remember the name of. Still, there are things that peak his interest, and when he finds those moments he becomes almost radiant. His eyes light up and he speaks endlessly about whatever grabbed his attention while he fills pages of his notebook with his thoughts on it. Rarely does Gulfam have a day of darkness, but when he does he retreats to a secluded corner of his lair and keens for Sumrokul, who will descend in hopes of comforting his Charge. He finds great comfort in the father-figure that entered his life so dramatically, and will often try his best to comfort Sumrokul through his panics as he tries to drag himself free of the pit losing his original Charge dropped him in.
