Jay (of the Mirror)
Golden Kitsune
Floral Fox Farm Manager, and Greymuzzle (Fur Farms Representative)

With fur as bright as gold and an intricate mirror attached to her chest, this kitsune's beauty rival those of her ranch foxes.
Jay of the Mirror is a kind, graceful, and pretty female kitsune sporting 7 golden and blue tails. She is a silent one, but also confident and determined when she has an objective. A real flirt, she enjoys jokingly courting the males of the clan as a hobby - when she's not busy caring for her foxes! Being the mate of Ivy, the two of them live together - along with Hhuty, a friend and fellow Fur Farm Family employee.
The golden kitsune enjoys fishing, but does so either alone or with her closest friend and mate - she does not have much ties with Summer, the fisherman, as the latter is very reserved and almost mute. Maybe because of how dirty she was as a kit, Jay spends a lot of time grooming herself now that she's older.

Though calm and soft, she becomes defensive about certain subjects - mostly the ethics of her farm. She also holds a grudge against Azur, who is vehemently against her work and growls insults when in her vicinity - as well as trying to get other clans and groups involved to stop her line of business. He represents her greatest ethical adversary, and she knows some other members of the clan support him - maybe not with his passion, though still agree with him. Some of her foxes were rescued from her farm by other dragons or beastclan - either because of moral obligations or simply because they preferred the animal alive - though she asks for a heavy fee in this case. The fur and parts of her creatures are used for clothing, decoration, taxidermy, teaching, lair isolation and nesting, to only name a few - the meat can also be eaten, though it's not really fat and does not have the best taste - mostly when compared to fish or other, more succulent red fleshed animals.

Jay was born blind.
The beginning of her existence was a difficult one; rejected by her parents because of her condition, she lead an early life of begging near other kitsune temples - giving her a reputation of a freeloader, and making her promptly hated by her local community for "desecrating holy grounds". In a settlement where beauty and grace were deemed as supreme, she was simply discarded as useless - what worth was her golden pelt when she barred blind, glazed over eyes? How could she ever move around majestically when she couldn't see her surroundings, stumbling around like a kit?
She could never fit it.

Unable to hunt or protect herself, bullied and scared, Jay's short life would've normally ended quickly - the weak was naturally supposed to be culled, after all.
However, her life changed for the better one day.

It happened that her prayers - that she recited every day for a better life, or for the release of death - reached a minor God, known as Shiranui. Sensing her despair and her need for help, the pure white wolf - who was only but a mere legend in the land of the kitsunes - approached the young golden fox as she slept under a bush, dirty and starved, on the outskirts of her village. The God had no reason to help her personally - was a being so holy truly able of compassion? - but more followers meant more power, and they couldn't sit back and watch this short life end like this.
So much wasted potential, all of this due to the selfishness characterizing her species...

The kitsune retrieved, Shiranui made their way to the Spirit Garden - where they resided. Though at first disdainful, AURORA agreed to let the kit rest in the village - it was another mouth to feed, but more eventually the kitsune could do her part for the community, when she grew older.
As Jay came to, confused and in unfamiliar territories, her real story began.

As she grew older, she managed to flourish and develop correctly thanks to many inhabitants of the Village. Mostly friends with Shiranui, she also managed to approach Ivy - a feat no one had done before. The relationship between the two continued to evolve, and it wasn't rare to see them together.
It was when AURORA, along with Shiranui, combined their powers to give Jay a divine instrument - similar in concept to the wolf - that she could finally see. It was to commemorate her growth of power, as she stood next in line to be one of the strongest (magic-wise, behind Shiranui and Asriel) in the community. Under the white wolf's strong mental influence - and the Leader's trust in him - AURORA was convinced to help the kitsune. The Mirror created for her served as her eyes, as well as a weapon that could shoot frigid, solid rays of light - the combined power of Light and Ice.

Time passed, and under the influence of the Village's main economy - the fur trade - Jay started having ideas for "farming" pelts. After months of intense research within the Clan's knowledge pool and travelling around, the Kitsune fell in love with the Floral Foxes - a species of multi-coloured canids, their pelts growing different species of flowers. However, the only available variations were few and far in between, and very common. It was then that the idea of creating "rare morphs" happened in her mind; it was only logical after all - creating a demand could bring money into the clan, and continue their breach in the fur trade economy.

Cooperating with the Spirit Village's geneticists and scientists - as well as getting help from a Lightning Clan away from their territory - Jay managed to bring to life multiple mutations of pelt and flower colours on Floral Foxes. White, gray, golden, purple, blue... Those were only some of the multiple and magnificent shades appearing on her "children" (as she called them). After selecting and cross-breeding some of her individuals, she soon developed a distinct business, and officially became part of the village's economy.

Jay of the Mirror truly loves her foxes, and sees them like her children; which is why she makes sure to treat them well, their care being her utmost priority - and, when the time is right, putting them to sleep with flute music (Ivy's job, who is also part of the business - along with Hhuty) before ending their life softly and quickly, without brutality and pain. This process does not pain her, as it is part of the business - and she knows she gave them a good life.

However, not everyone is happy with her choices. Azur, the renowned ecologist of the clan, is very vocal about the cruelty of her work. Some other members feel uneasy about farming animals for their fur - though Jay and her associates, as well as Equinox the taxidermist and some of the witches make sure every part of the foxes are used so there is no waste. Defenders of Sornieth's fauna's rights also visited the mill upon hearing about the concept - all of this causes tensions in the surroundings of the Spirit Village, but Jay of the Mirror will not allow others to dirty her company's name. Using a peaceful approach - but also becoming defensive at times - she tries to dialogue with her opponents, to make them see her point of view. Some ended up agreeing, others became even more hateful, the rest stayed neutral.
Such is life.
NOTES
- Jay and her sibling, Thrush, got mutated. Kitsunes are very fragile (matter and magic wise) to getting mutated into body horror creatures...
- Due to their soul magic signature!!!
- Ino (who is the name of Jay and Thrush, together) has fluffy tails!!!!
- Might make old Aurora a Kitsune, now that I think about it...

GENERAL INFOS
- The pelting of her foxes happens a moon before the Crystalline Gala; the furs are sold during each Ice Festival (and afterwards.)
- The foxes are housed in large cages/dens underneath her house. The grounds are wired so that the dirty stuff doesn't pile up inside the living space (and so that it can be easily cleaned) but also so that the foxes don't hurt their paws when walking on it.
- They each have a small individual resting den behind the cage/manure area, dug in the stone and earth wall. Coarse dirt is used as the bedding/floor (?)
- They are trained from a young age to mostly use the cage, and to do their stuff only there (while the den is mostly for sleeping, or relaxing if they feel ill.)
- Males and females are mixed (aka placed in adjacent cages; this helps the reproduction cycle and interaction between the individuals.)
- They have access to indirect sunlight underground - not direct, to prevent alternating the pelt colours.
- They are fed meat kibble - no full prey so that their fur isn't stained with blood, or damaged by it.
- A whole cycle of life takes a year; birthing, taking care of them, choosing, breeding, pelting, etc...
- The Floral Foxes have very complex genetics - some influencing the flower patterns/growth/quantity, others the fur length/colour, markings, eyes, temperament, birthing/reproduction capabilities etc etc.
- Jay works with the scientists to develop new morphs/mutations, and to give her foxes a better quality of life (less illnesses, less genetic disorders/issues... )
- They can even develop new morphs/breeders, almost from scratch (embryonic manipulation).

The farm has about 65 Floral foxes right now; capacity is 120.
- Floral Foxes parts are mainly used for; full clothing and / or clothing accessories (flowery fur), shamanic costumes and / or accessories, capes, individual collections, taxidermy, art accessories (flowers, claws, teeth, bones, etc.)
- The foxes are quite large and very fluffy, with big ears.
- Floral Foxes have been bred to have double canines, a very thick double coat, to be big in size (a lot more so than their wild counterparts), to have larger ears and a longer-and-bushier tail; even more so, they have a lot more flowers growing in their pelt.
- They also have "fans" of fur on both of their sides, starting from the chest/belly and going outwards towards the tail (the fur on these fans is like, veeeery thick).
- The bigger the ears, tails and fans; and the thicker the fur overall... The better.
- There is not much difference (dymorphism) between the males and the females - except the reproduction side.
- Some toys (such as bones) are given to the foxes so that they can be less bored; there are also a few moments in their lives when they are allowed to meet with each other, play and socialize (under supervision, so that no accidents/fur-damaging stuff happen).
- They can also go in bigger cages from time to time, with platforms on the sides (so that they can "hide", have some exercise, etc.)
- They are pretty much domesticated, really.
- There are dens for the females and the pups, when the time for birthing comes.
- Xievan takes care of drawing the pamphlets; the available foxes for each year are painted onto paper and distributed to neighboring clans (and even other regions, outside of Ice?)
- Naturally mutated foxes, or those with genetic issues are often culled (if not useful to the farm) and sold as specimens (either more, or less expensive than normal individuals depending on the condition.)
- For example, intersex; bone problems; dispropius; defects etc etc.
- Some dragons or beings can be interested in getting oddities, or out-of-the-norm individuals (for scientific or collection purposes).
- Jay works in collaboration with the Harpies and Longnecks allied to the Spirit Village - they are mostly employees/workers/helpers for the farm.

Otherwise, the Farm Family has regular foxes (with every morph from our human world), descendants of the local Thievuls. About 75, with a full farm capacity of 140.
- Foxes parts are mainly used for; capes, individual collections, plush carpets and / or blankets, full clothing, art accessories (whiskers, claws, teeth, etc.), taxidermy.
- They are never engineered in, like the Floral Foxes; regular fox morphs are simply bred like in our world.
- Thievuls descendants/foxes have very thick whiskers, prized when they are fully intact on the pelt.

Also minks, a much smaller farm, ran by Extinct primarily. Number, 30; capacity, 70.
- Minks parts are mainly used for; capes, full clothing and / or accessories (fur or whole bodies), soft blankets and / or carpets.
- Same colours as their real world counterparts (but there's also creative patterns and out-of-the-norm colours, because this is my lore and we can have fun here, dammit!)

Old World rabbit-and-their-natural morphs farm. Ran by Hhuty, and the usual draconic and Beastclan helpers. Number, 65; capacity, 150.
- Rabbits parts are mainly used for; accessories, shamanic uses, capes and / or partial details on bigger clothing, soft blankets and / or carpets.
- Bred to be bigger, with longer fur. The reproduction side slowed down due to the breeding/genetic manipulation, but their fur is thick and prized.

Raccoon dogs. Ran by Inugami and Viverrin, a couple. Numbers, 50; capacity, 80.
- Veeery big raccoon dogs compared to real world ones. As big as a Floral Fox, with very thick and plush fur. Comes in multiple colours, often mottled with some white or cream.
- Raccoon dogs parts are mainly used for; individual collections, capes / clothing / accessories, plush carpets and / or blankets.

Igueel farm, ran by Ombre. Big fans, rigid/much thicker leather, bigger than their natural counterparts, and in a lot more colours/morphs. Number, 45; capacity, 65.
- Igueel parts are mainly used for; individual collections, taxidermy.
- It is often a dare, in Sornieth's Vulture Culture community, to find / have the wildest leather colours / markings on an Igueel skin. So some morphs are definitely more prized than others, which are visually milder.
- Because of this... Niche but strong demand for "wild designs", Ombre tries to bring out the best colours and markings in their farmed specimens (and to eventually bring her buyers the most out-there and original coloration genetically possible).

Finally, Planesrunners. Ran by Sheeva and some of the scientists. Double wooly coat, four horns, concentrated magical properties in their eyes and body parts. Number, 20; capacity, 45.
- Planesrunners parts are mainly used for; magic properties, shamanic clothing and / or accessories, individual collections, taxidermy, warm and soft carpets (and / or blankets).
- Hopefully I'm not forgetting any farms from my clan... OMg.
- Oh wait yeAH
- Aurora has their own farm, in their very church apartments, for Ampelopes (from the Thunderhead Savannah, their native home as a Raptorik).

Ampelopes, run by Aurora themself, the Spirit Village's spiritual leader. Number, 55; capacity, 100.
- Ampelopes parts are mainly used for; individual collections, long-haired capes / clothing, multiple electric properties, taxidermy.
- These Ampelopes have been bred solely by Aurora, over generations of genetic selection (he refuses for anyone else to be involved in his job). They have been slowly changed over time, to survive in the cold weather of the Snowsquall Tundra (even if they're mostly inside the church all day); long and thick fur (also named "winter coat variant" by outsiders), branched horns (with two or three points each, four points being the rarest/most number of points ever seen as of now), and multiple bright colour morphs.
- One is gold and red... Something something.
- They're also charged in electricity, mostly in their hair roots and skin, and must be skinned/handle with rubber gloves or tools, or certain "isolating" materials, to not get shocked.
- Part of the pelts are "neutralized", while another part of the batch remains charged.
- They're quite a lot of work...

Owlynx are now farmed in the Spirit Village. Ran by NAME and Pastel. Bigger wings, bigger bodies and better proportions with their big paws and long legs. Multiple farmed colour variants. Very thick double coat, long whiskers, very fluffy and longer tail, double canines. Sharper claws and talons than in natural variants. Current number, 35; capacity, 75.
- Owlynx parts are mainly used for; individual collections, full warm clothing and / or warm clothing accessories (fur), warm blankets and / or carpets, taxidermy, accessories (claws, teeth, wings).
- Owlynx are skinned with the full wings, claws, and talons included on the pelt.
- Due to preservation techniques, the wings on their pelts are "relaxed" and can be folded / unfolded manually, as much as one wants. When in the Fur Annex, Owlynx are checked for their pelt and markings, but also for their wings (lack of damage, no missing feathers, full grown plumage, etc).

Hisuian Zoroark-based creatures, also known as Magic Foxes, are farmed in an underground and secretive lab; only known and operated by a few individuals in the clan. Number, 10; capacity, 30.
- Magic Foxes are used for; individual collections, clothing, shamanic uses, magic uses (organs and other available body parts), taxidermy.
- These Magic Foxes look like the general Hisuian Zoroark, except that they are fluffier, with an impressively long and wispy mane. Huge front paws, built with long claws of all colours (depending on the morph); unlike the Wild Variant, they have a short wispy tail, similar to a big pompom. Their dentition became all fang-like teeth; their markings are more diverse, with multiple colours. Very thick leather, difficult to skin...
- They hairs are very long, but so soft and wispy that they can't be broken by shock or rough-handling (unlike deer pelts, for example).
- The more fur an individual has, the more expensive it is.
- It comes to a point, where some individuals with too much fur are "weighted down" and can barely move, because of the sheer weight of their mane and double coat...

Beavers, farmed part-time by Quebec. Number, 25; capacity, 50.
- These beavers have thick leather, very dense fur, and are much larger than their natural counterparts (about double or triple the size). They are used for clothing, rugs, and taxidermy.
- When Quebec is not occupied at the Sugar Shack, he farms beavers.
- Took a few individuals from the Wild, bred them to have the characteristics he desires...
- He decided to farm them, rather than trapping them; since it would be more time and effort-efficient that way.
- He also keeps them clean, so they don't have mud or debris stuck in their pelts, from water or dams...
- Quebec only farmed the brown variant at first (so that all the pelts would look the same, and it would thus be simpler to put a price on them), but he has now branched out to other colours (such as rufous, black, cream, or even with markings).
- I mean, it's a farm... Gotta make new morphs heeey B')!!
- Beavers are skinned ventral (for the usual fur market), but a few individuals (deemed special, either by their size or markings or characteristics) are case-skinned for taxidermy purposes.

OTHER DETAILS
- Floral Foxes in particular must be skinned very quickly and carefully after death, as their flowers tend to decay / be more fragile at that point.
- "Conservation" spells can be used (or at least, some form of way to slow down bacteria growth and natural decay), to make the job easier.
- Also, so that the skinners can have more time to remove the skin/flowers/everything without issues.
- All of the Village's farm creatures are case-skinned, with every part (eyes/lips/ears split, pawpads or hooves, claws, whiskers...)
- If the farmed beings have horns (such as the Planesrunner or Ampelopes), their skull is left inside the pelt (a bit like some older taxidermy works, where the skull is left inside the overall structure to deal easily with the horns).
- It's a lot of work, but damn do their finished skins look good.
