Biography
Ysidor is the clan nurse. He was blinded by a corrosive depin that he bumped into as a hatchling when he was playing too close to the water. The depin spat in his face out of self-defense, and when he made it back to the light clan where he was born, the acid had destroyed his eyes.
He decided to become a nurse so he could help others heal, coming to Nature where the will to nurture is so strong. Because of his blindness, his other senses are enhanced so he can tell a lot about what’s wrong with someone through hearing and touch and the like. He still needs a guide to get around, however, and before Yngvild came to the clan with a pair of wisps in crystal balls, he was quite dependant on other dragons. But then he adopted the lesser starsweeper, Sialisialis, and they became his guide. Starsweepers can become mildly telepathic to dragons they’re closely bonded with, so while Ysidor can’t exactly see thorugh Si’s eyes, he can follow their lead without physical contact, both on land and in the air. Si in turn gets energy from being close to Ysidor, because wisps don’t eat but feed on life from other life forms. Dragons, being so strong and clever, are the best for this. It’s not a drain for Ys, though, it’s more mutually beneficial.
Ysidor says that Si being part of his mind has made him a quicker learner and thinker. And Si spends way more time out of their ball than most wisps do – in fact they only sleep there at night, on Ysidor’s bedside table.
