From an early age, Ryoma knew he would not live an easygoing life, well aware that while born a fighter, his low-rank of gōshi would not win him many favors as those higher ranked. Indeed, as he reached the cusp of adulthood, found himself caught in the middle of an uprising; seeing all these capable dragons around him made the Imperial feel insecure, wondering if he would be able to prove himself. However, he did not have to worry much, as being highly skilled in the art of sword fighting earned him an opportunity to train in Dragonhome. His teachers held Ryoma in high opinion, believing that the Imperial could help bring about the reform of power they were looking for.


Of course, things hardly go as planned and Ryoma found himself on the wrong side of the gōshi after helping a female dragon and her hatchling escape from them. Angered, the gōshi forced the male to fight; he won, and it was because of this that whispers of his punishment grow. Ryoma grows angered rather than frightened at this, deciding to stand his ground and face it honorably instead of fleeing.

He was taken to the Fortress of Ends as prisoner, and would have been killed, were it not for his father rescuing him. Leaving the Southern Icefrield, Ryoma headed home to the Ashfall Waste. Upon his arrival, the male stated a change of allegiance, claiming he would now be fighting for Loyalist causes—effective immediately. He started traveling across the Waste, fighting for the Loyalists, suppressing any rebellions.

It was in his travels across the Great Furnace that he came across the clan, Sgail Lasair. Having heard stories of his great skill in sword fighting, the clan members were intrigued by Ryoma; while the clan wasn’t always so welcoming to newcomers, some members expressed interest in allowing him to stay. After all, with his talent, he could prove useful, should he agree to swear allegiance to them. (Besides, it wasn’t as if he could be any worse than some of the other dragons who had passed through Sgail Lasair’s entrances.)

Reluctant though he was at first, the Imperial eventually relented to stay, if only for a little while. He quickly proved his worth, showing that the rumors were more than just rumors. As time wears on, Ryoma finds that, despite continuing to travel about Sornieth, he keeps returning to the Great Ice Fields. It is there, amongst the warriors of Sgail Lasair, that he feels truly at home.
