melantha has a long and violent past. suffice to say tepptho always has her hands full with this one.

her egg was found abandoned by sengsaro in the old days, when the guardian was the matriarch of a different clan in the shadow flight. she grew up in darkness and thorns. on her few excursions to light flight territory, seeking out the parents that must have abandoned her, she was always driven back and branded an intruder.

she considered the light flight to be her birthright. the moment she grew old and strong enough, melantha fled sengsaro's clan to sneak into the other flight's territory. she blended in for a time, but found the other flight difficult to live with. the pearlcatcher found herself longing for darkness and murk.

melantha took it upon herself to enlighten these dragons of sunlight. this didn't last long, however; after attempting several murders to take over the light flight clan, she was caught and imprisoned. the very essence of light was stripped from her being as punishment. melantha could no longer stand to even look up at the sun or feel its warmth upon her scales without an ache spreading throughout her being.

after years of aimless wandering, half-dead and a shell of her former self, she stumbled into earth flight territory, where tynan spotted her. he brought her to the clan to look after her. sengsaro recognized melantha even as a shred of her former self. feeling responsible for it all, the guardian assigned tepptho as her warden and brought melantha into the clan as a prisoner.

she visits sengsaro when she can. the two often sit in dark, shadowy silence. a hollow feeling tends to fill the air when they are together.
