The guardian was hunting. How long had it been? He'd lost track days ago. He hadn't eaten and slept and the scales on his feet were beginning to crack open. He knew he couldn't stop, though. It wasn't right; none of it was. He had to keep pushing on, and so he did, head low to the ground as he stayed true to his quest. The guardian was--no, not hunting... Searching.

When Rootbug found the Vale, he was half starved and baked in the sun and the wind. He collapsed at the entry to the clan's lair and was tended to by Bloombrood and a few others. When he woke, he knew he was home. His search was over, as it was his duty, his sole purpose in life, to protect this clan, whatever may come.

As the newest member of the Vale clan, Rootbug is still learning his way around. He's quite young for a dragon, and even younger to have found his charge, so many of the traditions of the clan and the individuals within it have been startling at best. He's trying to approach his charge with an open mind, though, and can often be found wandering around the outside of the lair, inspecting it for any weaknesses or openings. Every few weeks, he slips away to fly the borders of the clan's territory, ensuring they're safe from all harm. He also often grills Dante when he returns from his travels to ensure that there's no news of any approaching danger, and usually talks so much he annoys even the outgoing imperial.

He has a good heart, though, and Dawnthorn can see his passion for his new home. With a few more years of maturing, Rootbug will make a great guard.
