The Deceiving Prince/Light Ambassador

When one thinks of the dragons born under the Lightweaver, they think of scholars, seekers of truth, those that reveal what they truly think.

Then they might have never Audacious.

Some wonder why a prince like Audacious doesn't live in a kingdom.

He was a prince. Was.

When he was young, his parents gave him to a tyrant to spare their lives.

The tyrant and his wife were proud dragons, looking down on those that did not fit to their liking. Tundras, snappers, mirrors, ridgebacks, spirals, bogsneaks and nocturnes. These were the breeds that were the viewed as the lowest in the kingdom. But even the other breeds weren't safe either. They were simply slightly higher than them, but even then slaves or pets of them weren't uncommon to come across.

Only dragon with royal bloodlines or were beautiful enough were allowed.

He fit the latter.

Mere days in their ranks he began to hate his life with the pair. They punished any dragons lower than them for even the smallest mistakes or slightest resistance against their rule. Many other royals were like them too, the most snotty, arrogant dragons he'd ever seen. A few, at least were redeemable or friendly to the lower ranks.

He hated them, but he hid his true feelings, never letting it show in front of them or others.

Soon, however, he realized that there tensions between the two of them, noting the slight growls they made at each other when they thought no one was watching, the way they glared at one another at discussions with others, and how they acted colder and colder each week. He noted in the others, too. Scathing remarks, to outright trying to sabotage one another, he heard and seen them all.

They said they were protected, yet here were the signs that it had so many weak spots, it could toppled at a wrong word, a missing possession, or just a simple lie.

So he started to lie.

Placed in such a high rank allowed to easily lie to them, fully bearing his innocence in his words, they never did figure out that what he said was lies. They all believed his little white lies, his crocodile tears.

Knowing that he could be easily found out to be the start of the fights, he began to steal items and place them in strategic locations where they could be easily found. Mostly in each other's room, hidden in such places where one could deduct that it was not misplaced, but stolen.

Jewelry, treasure, gems, personal items and objects from the vault. All these were the items he chose, knowing that some of them valued these so much, that those who stole it from them were placed under torture, and/or forcibly stripped of their rank, and turned into slaves. They were a disgrace to their family and were always disowned.

This soon began to take effect, as discussions soon began to have mentions of the missing items. And when found out the room or area where it was placed, the blame game starts.

But it wasn't enough.

He started to devise a plan to make them take sides against each other, to crush them with the right words at the right time. But first, he needed someone to help.

Someone who had the bitterest grudge against them, one with the courage to lead an entire army right under their noses.

It took time to look for them, but he finally had a suitable candidate. The skydancer he always saw, wings bound with hot metal and flames, never to fly again, a slave of the forge.

One day, when the rest of the kingdom was busy with a celebration, he went right to her, took her aside and told her of his proposal.

With the fire in her heart ignited and a smile on her face, she accepted.

Unfortunately, a rebellion can't suddenly appear when you want it, but you have to gather recuits and train them so they could strike back.

So they started with those who were willing to sacrifice themselves for the sake of freedom. There were many, but there some that did not want join, and instead pass information to them, telling them what was happening in any part of the kingdom. Others forged weapons for them to use, others trained them to wield the weapons.

A few, however, did not join. They were either very weak or very old, unable fight due to what torture they had received, or had physical deformities that hinder them. Those were told to stay as low as they can.

After they had settled in their new home, he was given the profession of being the light ambassador.

After a few months, a skydancer of fire had come to rest.

Already did Audacious notice the look in the skydancer's eyes.

Wariness, curiosity, and interest.

From the look of it, he was capable of strong fire magic, managing to burn damp pieces of wood.

But what drew him, was the deviousness in his eyes.

Just like him.

“All the world will be your enemy, Prince with a Thousand Enemies, and whenever they catch you, they will kill you. But first they must catch you, digger, listener, runner, prince with the swift warning. Be cunning and full of tricks and your people shall never be destroyed.”
