Biography
Malao
Malao was the unplanned offspring of Lowan and Jesen, leaders of a cult dedicated to the Gladekeeper, whose aim was to destroy her sister's progeny to bring her glory. Raised to hate plague dragons but love only the Gladekeeper, Malao never felt close to either of his parents. It was painfully clear he wasn't in the cult's plan for nature's domination. His mother even seemed ashamed of him. He grew withdrawn and bitter, and rejected the cult's teachings. His father wasn't pleased. As his siblings made their escape, or sacrificed themselves to the Gladekeeper, his hope grew that he could join them outside the clan.
Lowan, however, would not let him. Lowan had his son's wings clipped, and sentenced Malao to work behind the scenes at the commune. Now Malao can never escape the cult.
He does have an adopted sister, but he is not allowed to approach or speak to her. He feels greatly bitter about how she was planned, and how better she's treated in comparison.
When the cult fell, Malao was one of the few who were able to escape the clan who had destroyed the cult. Even as he felt branches scratch his hide, he smiled.
'You always told lies, father.'
Managed to escape when the cult fell
Captured by a serthis clan (the one where Avernis is)
"A-arvensis? Is that you?"
"Malao?!"
"Oh, Gladekeeper..."
He was suddenly pulled into a tight embrace, Malao holding him as if he would never let go. He heard his brother speak again, but he could hear sobs as well.
"I thought y-you ha-had died..."
