Biography

IRYZ

Of course she's gruff, anyone would be after living a life like her's. But you'd be a fool to judge Iryz by her manner. I owe her more than I can say.

Rough and plain-spoken, violent and jovial, Iryz is Outfit Vector's primary combat instructor. Years of fighting in The Ashfall Waste's fighting pits and the gladiatorial arena of Bonespire Keep have honed her skills to a lethal perfection and despite nearing the autumn of her years she is a force to be reckoned with. Outside of Command, she is perhaps the most favored of Khatun Shiv's Eleven, as Outfit Vector's reputation rests in its fighting strength. Aspiring exaltees will compete for her attention, even if that most often takes the form of a bruised face and a mouthful of dirt. It is considered the highest honor to face her in the sparring ring, as she pushes her students past their limits to far greater potential. There isn't a single warrior who leaves Outfit Vector for Plaguebringer's battlefield that wasn't in some way shaped by her hand.

Fiercely independent, Iryz has no mate or lover. However she's known to spend much of her downtime with her colleague, the tactics instructor Zoan. Both older dragons, they are most often seen enjoying a quiet drink or comparing notes on students. Suggest that there may be a blossoming romance there, however, and a face full of spittle from her hilarity would likely be the least of it. Otherwise, Iryz keeps to herself, especially after her previous assistant Blyze, left to join The Cell. She'll deny having favored students, but does seem to turn a more than attentive eye toward the training of her newest charge, Idorus. It could very well be that the young mirror seeks to take over Iryz's duties, if the old Mirror could ever be persuaded to retire.

Iryz's most noteworthy feature is undoubtedly her latticework skeleton, which frames her spine and supports her wings. Without it she would be effectively crippled and every morning sees her carefully tending to its upkeep, occasionally going to her bio mechanic, Loxla, for more serious repairs. Some of her more foolish students think that targeting the skeleton is a quick way to an easy victory, but even if it were not made of the hardest Platinum Ore, they would have to get past her guard, which is harder still.

History
Hailing from the farthest reaches of The Fortress of Ends, Iryz's path to Outfit Vector was more circuitous than most. Given away at a young age, Iryz found herself cast out into an inhospitable world where strength, cunning, and complete obedience were all that kept her from sharing an unmarked grave with those hatchlings too weak or too stupid to survive.

Iryz had no expectation of re-emerging alive. She knew that there was little demand for her sort, so she sought to make her final act a memorable one. Fatefully, the chaos caused by her planned, grand departure from Life's stage drew the attention of scouters for the Bonespire Arena, a new venue located in the western stretch of the Wandering Contagion. Iryz found herself unexpectedly packed off across the sea to the Scarred Wasteland.

Her tenure in the Arena was in some ways exactly as she expected, and in others, nothing like it at all. She was still forced to fight beastclan and other dragons for sport, but her overseers were not quite the cruel taskmasters she was used to. However it made little difference. One fateful day she fell from a blow to her back and could not get back up. Her spine had been broken, her wings were useless, and she was taken to the medical bay with no hope for recovery.

But like so many times before, Iryz cheated death one more time. Unbeknownst to Arena management, the head medic had an under-the-table arrangement with bioengineers of unsavory reputation. Iriz regained consciousness in a makeshift shack, with two luminous, acid-green spheres floating above her. They were eyes, she realized, hidden behind glowing goggles.

Iryz eventually learned that she had the dubious honor of serving as a graduation test to the young bioengineer, Loxla, which - she was quickly informed - had been passed with flying colors. Loxla was happy to explain at length how she had achieved full integration between her artificial prosthetic and Iryz's spine (aside from the third vertebrae, which she would have gotten as well if Iryz hadn't kicked so much). Indeed, when Iryz cautiously got to her feet she found that her limbs responded and her wings unfurled. She had been made whole again by a intricate, latticework skeleton.

Her saviors, Loxla and her mentor Azkivu, were dragons of science who hailed from the nearby clan, Outfit Vector. They had seen her fight in the Arena and, impressed by her will to survive, had decided to mend her broken spine. (Or use her as experiment fodder, as Iryz primarily suspected). After finding that Iryz had no plans or particular aspirations, the Mirrors invited her to join their clan. They bade her wait and regain her strength, and promised that another Mirror, Tydra, would soon come to collect her. She didn't credit this tale, assuming the Mirrors were trying to get rid of her. But on the seventh morning a caravan stopped outside the shack door, and a well-dressed Mirror alighted to bow to her with a flourish. "Lady Iryz," Tydra said. "I've come to take you home."
