Artemis

The Huntress
Silent | Observant | Patient | Stubborn | Honest

Personality
Artemis is very calm and patient dragon. She rarely gets angry with anyone, so she's there to calm fighting dragons down. She thinks before she speaks. She can sound kind of emotionless, but that's just her really calm voice. Though she also has a more stubborn and honest side that she shows. Rarely, but shows.

First of all, she's introverted. She doesn't seek attention of other dragons, she watches silently from the shadows or from behind. She can open up if anyone gets close enough to her, but most of the time she's not very open to others. She trusts her clanmates, though, and would do anything for them. She's very observant and attentive and she can always offer a shoulder to cry on if needed. She's patient, which is very useful, as she's a huntress. Her skills are immense and she always goes for the greatest and the most dangerous prey, sometimes hunting for days or weeks, far away from her clan, only with her beloved wolf familiar.

On the other hand, you can meet also her very stubborn side. She's not one to step aside, which may frustrate some dragons. Thanks to her patience, she wins arguments most of the time simply because her opponent gives up first. She's also very honest, she speaks her mind whenever she can. She doesn't like lying, so she's not doing it herself. Thanks to that she may seem a little bit cruel, but honesty is just that. A little bit cruel. When she knows her words would make no good, she just stays silent.

She enjoys the cold nights of full moon, she enjoys the thrills of a hunt. She's a huntress by heart and by soul. And while she can seem distant sometimes, she's a full member of this clan and will always be. Because every time she goes to hunt, she always returns home.

History
The story of Artemis starts long before she was hatched. Her story starts with how she got stolen from her clan when she was still in her egg. She belonged to a clan of dragons living in Dragonhome, but never got the chance to get to know them or her true parents. She was stolen by a clan of harpies, probably as a revenge after a fight that might have happened before. Her egg was kept in their nest for a few weeks, probably kept to be hatched and trained to be used by them in the fights against other dragons. Or maybe she was to be eaten or killed, that's something we'll never know.

Whatever the harpies kept the egg for, they never achieved it. After a small raid on them by a small group of fighters and hunters, the egg was taken with them. Those dragons were strong fighters, travelling Sornieth to battle all kinds of enemies, weak or strong. Seeing an egg laying around at the nesting grounds was a huge surprise for them, but they didn't even think twice about taking it with them. They wanted to give that dragon growing inside a chance at living in a dragon clan. And so Artemis travelled in the arms of a dragon all the way south into the Icefields.

It was a big day when her egg finally cracked open. In the broken shells sat a Nocturne, looking around her with her curious brown eyes, revealing her elemental origin. There were a few dragons around her. A female tundra, a female imperial a female wildclaw. The three adults welcomed the hatchling into the world. The imperial soon left, but the tundra and wildcalw stayed. Artemis didn't understand it at first, why didn't she look like them? Where were her parents?
"Little one, don't be afraid," the tundra said and offered her a piece of mea to eat. The tiny nocturne didn't hesitate for a second and that piece of food now travelled her throat into the stomach. "Welcome to our clan." The tundra was smiling at her. She felt very good around her. Then there was that wildclaw. That one was quiet, just watching the newborn. "I'm sure you'll like it here. Or... I hope." She didn't know what to say to that, so she stayed silent. She looked at her pink scales and then at the ground benath her. It didn't feel cold even though there were icicles and snow on the other side of the cave.
"Where am I?" werethe first words that came out of her mouth.
"You're in the lair, darling," the tundra answered. "This place particularly is reserved for all new hatchlings we get, so we keep it warm and nice."
"Where are my parents?" This question shocked the tundra a little bit. She lowered her head for a few moments, probably trying to think of a good answer. The wildclaw spoke instead.
"We don't know. We found your egg in a harpy lair after a hunt in the Dragonhome." She sounded a bit rough, but also intelligent. "We brought you back here because we just couldn't leave you there. The imperial you probably saw before carried you the whole way. And I have to say, Dragonhome is pretty far from here." Her speech was so casual, as it nothing of what she said was important. But for Artemis, every single word was. And she was thankful that those dragons saved her. She smiled a little bit. Maybe the'll give her a nice home. They did bring her all the way from Dragonhome which was apparently very far from the place she is in now.
"Now, if you want to rest first, I'll let you sleep. And when you feel you have enough energy,
I can show you around the lair." Artemis yawned, which was enough of a sign for the tundra that she needed some rest first. She patted the nocturne on the head lightly and then walked away. The wildclaw stayed for a moment, but then also turned around and left. Artemis closed her eyes and let herself be carried into the land of dreams.

Relationships

Trivia
  • She's the first unhatched egg I ever got and hatched.
  • She's named after the Greek goddess of the hunt and the Moon. Later I thought I could make her very much inspired by this goddess, so I really tried to uphold this aesthetic.
