B I O G R A P H Y

The first vision came when Vex was just barely out of hatchling-hood.

His sight fogged over, and he staggered, collapsing to the ground as his brothers’ faces swam into view before him. Hex stumbled backwards, then turned and took to the air, and Nex followed suit in a different direction. Faintly, Vex could hear the gasps and astonished cries of those same brothers, though he couldn’t quite tell if the sounds belonged with the vision or in the real world.

When Vex came to his senses, he realized he could no longer see out of his left eye, and his brothers were in the same prostrated position as he, all staring around at each other in shock. And their parents stood over them, gesturing wildly and screeching for them to get out.

They were cast out; separated. Vex didn’t have time to talk to his brothers. He only knew that what had happened in his vision was now coming true, and he scrambled up blindly, swaying to keep his balance before he turned and fled the clan he’d lived in for so long.

HHe couldn’t say how long he wandered. The visions came to him at odd times, always forecasting important events, though Vex couldn’t see how they started nor ended no matter how hard he tried. Aching with loneliness, he wandered all over Sornieth, visiting the temples of the deities and praying for a vision that would let him find his brothers again.

The vision finally came when Vex was wandering among the roots of the Behemoth. He saw an entrance to a lair deep in Shadow territory, saw the faces of his brothers, and felt a sense of belonging and peace settle deep in his heart. Even though the vision hadn’t told him where this clan was, he knew that was where he had to be.

And so he flew.

Shadow territory was just as dark and menacing as he would have expected, yet Vex’s heart grew lighter as he pushed through the tangled undergrowth. The sounds of another dragon doing the same thing rustled ahead of him, and Vex followed that sound until the narrow path widened into a clearing and the entrance to a lair.

Hex turned around, and Nex shook off the leaves that had fallen on his wings, and the loneliness inside Vex’s heart disappeared.

Here, in Umbra Sanguis, they finally reunited.
