The sight of the well-dressed coatl passing the shops early in the morning brought a smile to most of the faces that saw him. He added a bit of vibrancy and culture to the clan, carving his own little niche out within them all. It helped that the clan was full of dragons that had always felt different within the world, and Luca the coatl was no different. He’d brought his sense of fashion, his taste in clothing and his sweet personality with him, splashing color on those that visited his shop. And to the coatl, they brought him joy and excitement. There was a sense of belonging that had lingered in him for most of his life until he found the clan, and every day he saw the others it solidified his decision to stay.

As a young hatchling, Luca had found himself wanting. He could never place it, growing under the care and guidance of his parents and knowing that no matter who he was they would always love him. It filled his own heart with joy to know that, but even still Luca never felt like he was truly where he was meant to be. At least not yet.

The dragon grew to have an affinity with soft fabrics dyed multitudes of colors. He enjoyed learning how to sew, how to create textiles and clothes. It was a fascinating process and a skill he never thought he’d ever master, and yet he took to it like a fish to water. He became known through his birth clan as the strange coatl that liked to dress in expensive and extravagant clothes. Luca didn’t mind much, though he found it troublesome that most did not approach or talk to him much as if they were somehow intimidated by his dress. Given that the coatl was the opposite of stuffy, it was hard for him to relate to many in his clan because of it. But he wouldn’t give up his fashion - no, he was terribly dedicated to this aspect of himself, and wouldn’t sacrifice it.

Luca made the decision to leave his clan and travel, mostly hoping to find another group of people who would not judge him simply by his appearance. He also hoped to see the fashion of the world, gaining knowledge in it all and perhaps learning new techniques. Luca traveled for quite a few months but found most of the places he came to were not quite what he was looking for. They all just felt the same, with the dragons seemingly duplicates of the ones that made him feel isolated in his original clan. He learned what he could, forged the miniscule friendships that he was able to, and moved on.

Misfortune fell upon the coatl on his travels. An accidental disrespect to a deity in a settlement he had traveled to and forgot to follow adherence to their rituals left Luca cursed. When he woke the next day, he was frozen in a statue form. Unable to move, talk or even blink, the dragon could do nothing but lay in his bed solid and alabaster. Panic seeped over the coatl, but he could do nothing but stew in his lament until nightfall when the curse melted away and returned him to his normal state. Luca immediately sought an answer, afraid of what had happened to him only for a local member of the settlement to explain that he had upset their deity. Luca scrambled for a way to reverse it, but unfortunately there was nothing he could do. The deity would not forgive him even if he did attempt to make up for his disrespect. He was cursed until the day he died.

Luca continued to travel, spending his daytime statued state as a time for reflection and brainstorming his next big project. Sometimes other dragons would happen upon him, and even a few times he was hauled to another clan only to shock them to near death when nightfall came and he melted back into a living, breathing creature. It only further fueled his sense of isolation.

It wasn’t until he came to Umbra Sanguis that Luca finally got a sense of belonging. The clan was made up of dragons that had never really belonged in their own homes; outcasts and those that moved against the grain of the norms. They didn’t look at Luca as the others had, on the contrary. They all had their strange quirks, and so when the weary coatl entered the clan one evening only to be solid stone the next, they simply waited for nightfall to ask about it. It surprised Luca. He didn’t think any would be okay with his affliction, and yet the clan was more curious and still friendly. It eased a part of him that had always been like an anxious undertone to his life for every clan he ever stayed too long in.

Luca’s abilities to create works of art in clothing soon reached the ears of many dragons within the clan, and he found himself being requested to make articles for others. Of course Luca obliged; excited and heartened by their desire to wear his created filled him with happiness. He gave advice to any and all that asked, helping dress many and tailor fit their clothes. Despite his garb, Luca was a modest dragon personality-wise. He never flaunted his expertise with cloth, nor did he make others feel bad for lacking the means to dress.

While the appreciation and care that he was grateful to experience, there was another thing that kept Luca within the clan: a wildclaw by the name of Raziel had caught the coatl’s eye. He found himself fawning over him during the day when he was unable to move from his statue form until dusk, mingled with his ideas for a new piece to wear. Raziel became a focal point that helped ease Luca out of his boredom and annoyance at being trapped in a statue form during the day. It also didn’t help that should he be outside when the sun rose (which he did sometimes do so he could at least enjoy the day) that the wildclaw would come by and greet him, smiling his lovely smile. He’d sit under Luca when he could, talking to him about his day and eating his lunch. The coatl very rarely even uttered a few words to the dragon when he could out of sheer shyness, but Raziel would still visit with him during the days if he were out. Luca would never admit that he purposely did this most days, if only to listen to Raziel.
