Kenopsia was always not quite there, not quite steady or secure. She loved Sekhem, she really did, and she loved her children enough to send them off to see the world. But she was always restless for somewhere else to go, and one morning she got up and left, leaving her latest nest only just hatched.

The problem is that she was never there enough to completely leave. To be absent, you have to be present in the first place. She was just barely not dragon, just barely too red, and just a little bit like she's missing something. When she left, that missing feeling, the empty space - not-there and broken to pieces - stayed behind in the not-quite space she left where she used to be.

Kenopsia (the original) felt that loosening, and the falling away, and for a moment all of her was there: hanging in the air between a departure and a destination, with stars like wishes in the morning sky above her.

She will find a new clan, and she will be there.
