Magic runs strong in Aliryanna's blood. They say that her particular egg was touched by the Shade, and this single touch transformed her innate elemental magic into something far more destructive. She is one of the most powerful dragons the clan has ever seen, but she cannot control it. This is why she relies on claws and teeth; if she tries to use her magic, the results are wildly unpredictable and often fatal. The last time she used her magic purposefully, she was being attacked by a roaming clan of mirrors, and she killed them all. She almost killed herself, too, and she would not have survived if Marina had not found her and nursed her back to health.

Aliryanna's relationship with Aevon is complicated. He somehow survived her curse, and in doing so, became the only one she could relax around. Still, the fact that she cursed him in the first place means their relationship is often strained and combative, even though she would undo it in a heartbeat, if only she knew how.
