It's not uncommon for a dragon to retain their secondary heat eyes when one is Mirror born, although most successful scroll changes result in the target breeds predicted appearance of a single set of eyes. Naturally, the chosen pair of eyes should match correctly and the heat sensing ones fade away, but in the case of SunnyDay something went astray. His heat sensitive eyes shifted to become the dominant pair with the normal visual-sight ones fading away.
Lacking a strong protective eyelid membrane, SunnyDay must keep his exposed heat eyes covered with a dark cloth to withstand the constant overpowering sunlight. His world is purely navigated through veiled thermal vision and aided by utilizing innate lightning magic to detect subtle magnetic pulses.
The radiant symbol emblazoned above his forehead both redirects and absorbs surrounding light.
