Biography
"The Deathbringer" & Scavenger

Epitaph was the only son of Iolanthe and Dionysus. It is said that his father was a hero – an adventurer who was always on the run, but left behind his traces everywhere he sat foot. His good deeds and great bravery were well-known in various places of Sornieth. But after his long journeys, Dionysus felt that his feet got tired and his mind longed for rest. On his way, he’d met various mates, but he never felt he really had passed on his legacy to any of his children so far. So for his last adventure, he wished to find someone who would carry his real heir.
As Dionysus met Iolanthe he immediately knew she was the one, and she was quite fond of him too. Even though she knew how everything would end, she gladly spent her time with the Ridgeback and soon they had a single egg to take care of. As the child was born, Dionysus whispered something to his son and gave him a name: Epitaph.
Epitaph - Greek: “a funeral oration", "at, over" and "tomb"
This was Dionysus' last deed before he went to serve the Windsinger.
The clan took good care of the Ridgeback and especially Iolanthe showered him with love. But many of the dragons who shortly met his father at his former travels and knew nothing about his real motives started to fear the child. With his birth, Dionysus vanished and was never seen again, so they secretly called his son the "Deathbringer". He was avoided and even feared - it was seen as a bad omen to meet the Deathbringer.
So Epitaph became introverted, rarely going out on crowded places and barely talking to anyone. Only his mother, some of the other clan members and his grandmother (whom he dearly loves) know that he's a gentle Ridgeback, even funny sometimes. Still, he often perfers to be alone. So he found his profession in scavenging, where he feels free but can still be of some use for his family.
From time to time during his trips he seems to stare into nothingness and lose focus, though. This may be connected to the last words his father told him as he was born. No one knows what these were, not even Iolanthe. There may be more to them than anyone assumes.
