He has fought many battles and his clan look to him as their regal leader, with almighty power and never to be challenged. But he isn't all mean, he has a soft side, especially for Saphira his mate. The capsule on his body contains a magical liquid that gives him and his mate the ability to use magic, and glows when they do.His 'toughness' is all an act for the others to give them confidence. He's a cheeky, loving, loyal old chap.

They gained this magic when playing together out in the forest and got lost. For days they wandered in the forest, trees too large and thick for them to fly through (they were still young/teenage dragons). Finally they reached a lake with gushing waterfall and drank from the water aplenty to quench their thirst. A strange feeling in their stomachs they looked down to find their lower bellies becoming transparent and a peculiar liquid in it. One beat of wings upwards and suddenly he was spiralling up into the clouds with power he'd never had. They made their way back carefully to the caves their clan had been living and learnt they had discovered the Lake of Medeis (latin for magic). Always learning about this magic and it's strenghts and weaknesses.
