Biography
Snappy
Snappy is the elderly technician whose machinations make up the foundations of the clan’s technology. All the earliest technology in the lair was made by his claws, and everything made since then has used his creations as the blueprint. Everything in the lair, from the most fragile filament of a lightbulb to the most advanced complex circuitry and wiring, can trace its history back to Snappy. He is proud of how his technology has flourished through the years, and has immensely enjoyed watching how the generations that followed him embellished upon his works.
Snappy is old now, and walking can cause him great joint pain. His eyesight is bad, and his goggles are painfully thick to protect his weakening eyes. He can’t do the same kind of repairs and maintenance that he used to, but he’s still determined to help the clan develop however he can. He still spends all his time in his workshop, working on smaller gadgets and trinkets, and providing advice and lessons for the younger generation of technicians and inventors. He finds his life fulfilling, and is happy surrounding himself with the developments he’s made and the students he has taught.
He does have one great regret, however. Cadfael was his apprentice, once upon a time. Snappy feels haunted by this, and constantly fears that he was the one who corrupted Cadfael to be the way that he is. He wonders if he perhaps stifled Cadfael’s creativity too much, or if he didn’t encourage it enough. He wonders if he pushed Cadfael to work too hard, or if he planted the idea of revolution in his head. No matter what Snappy may or may not have done to develop Cadfael, the weight of his anxiety has led him to avoid his former apprentice altogether, to the point of being uncomfortable in the same room as him. Snappy cares deeply for the technological development of his clan — but he knows Cadfael’s way isn’t right.
