You hear a soft cough, a polite, "Pardon me...." You look up, and there's a drab brown harpy perched above you. He peers out at you from under a hood, his dark hair flopping untidily over his brow. "You are a vistor....Erm, are you lost?"

You assure him that you're all right and have been looking for the Beastclan Liaison Office. At this, the harpy breaks into a smile. He relaxes visibly. "You've come to the right place, then," he says, and with a tip of his head he indicates a spacious doorway. The sign bolted to the wall next to it reads "Beastclan Liaison Office (Clan #254672)".

As you approach it, the harpy drifts down. "My name is Soran, by the way. I assist the dragons with the office work, since some of them haven't got fingers. Or claws."

You enter the office and see the drake in charge, and Soran's meaning becomes apparent. Snappers, indeed, do not have fingers or claws.

The Snapper introduces himself rather perfunctorily. He has a preoccupied air about him, and you watch for a moment as he trudges around the room, indicating scrolls or codices with his large, blunt nose. Soran does most of the fetching and carrying; Nebuchadnezzar's own familiar, an Augite Protector, is snoozing contentedly atop a deep plush cushion. The golem's golden ornaments gleam as they drink up the sun, slowly recharging power.

"We work with several Beasts, though I must explain that only a few wish to make themselves known to other clans. Soran is collecting the necessary documents right now." Nebuchadnezzar nods towards another cushion. As you settle down, you ask him...

What is the clan's relationship with the Beastclans?
"Our clan has no personal quarrel with the Beastclans. We are quite interested in art and would like the chance to work with them, too. As for worldly matters, such as trade and economics, to put it bluntly, their gold is as good as anyone else's." Nebuchadnezzar does sound quite blunt at this point. He arches an eyeridge wryly at Soran, who is fluttering around the room. "Furthermore, there are plenty of things they can do that dragons can't, and we have a great deal of respect for that. Those who are willing to work with us are welcome to do so. Any Beast who approaches our clan with peaceable intentions is as welcome here as any drake would be."

Soran comes back at this point. He presents you with a slim sheaf of documents. "These are just some of the Beasts who work within the lair -- including me, of course," he explains.

Artemisia the Wintermane Bowman
• Partnered with Auspice

"An accident left Artemisia with a broken foreleg, and she was abandoned by her herd when our gatherers passed through the Scorched Forest. She was found by them and taken back to the lair. Artemisia was incredibly bitter and hostile at first, and I must admit she tried our patience at times. It was the cheerful, gentle Auspice who first made a real effort to befriend her. When Auspice confessed to being afraid of the dark, Artemisia volunteered to stand guard with her, and it has been that way ever since. She seems to be quite protective of her larger friend, really. She doesn't talk much to the rest of us but never runs out of encouraging words for Auspice. Auspice, indeed, is lucky to have such a stalwart friend."

Soran speaks for himself here: "I was raised as a prince. It's embarrassing, but I didn't like it at all; I was kept confined just for..." He coughs delicately. "Well, you know.
I think I'm quite lucky to be here. At least now, I'm treated with real respect. I understand that everyone must be useful to their community, but there's a difference between being useful and being used." He shakes his head. "Here, I do clerical work here and also act as an advisor, specializing in harpy customs and practices. It's secure and not too boring, and of course..." He grins at Nebuchadnezzar. "I work with some very interesting folks."
Nebuchadnezzar sighs and rolls his eyes.

Vivian the Stormcloud Harpy
• Colleague of Aidan

"Vivian is the clan's Harpy Ambassador. It is she who mainly speaks with harpies, whether or not they are associated with other dragon clans. When she is not fretting over ambassadorial duties, she joins our Flight Representatives in giving lessons on diplomacy to our clan's Adepts, as well as other interested parties. As for friendships, she is rather attached to our Chief of Security, Aidan." Nebuchadnezzar sniffs slightly; Soran seems a bit disapproving as well. After a few more comments, you gather that Vivian is not always cool and composed and that she can be a bit twittery, especially around her brawnier comrade.

Counsel the Longneck Medium

"Like other Longneck Mediums, Counsel has a deep interest and respect for the supernatural. When our warriors started exploring the Ghostlight Ruins, his clan put him in touch with ours, and he began accompanying our fighters so he could study the Ruins' denizens. He quickly developed a good working relationship with Rahenna -- after all, she is herself a Spirit Seer. Counsel has since graduated from his studies and remains very independent, often going abroad on research expeditions of his own."

Torvik the Longneck Scrapper
• Partnered with Metalicana

"Brusque and impulsive, there's nothing Torvik likes better than a good brawl. He needs to learn that he ought to be careful advertising his strength; otherwise someone might buy it all out." Soran rolls his eyes as he says this, and Nebuchadnezzar laughs grimly. The Snapper adds, "I was a child when Metalicana first came to the clan. He was as blunt and brusque as Torvik is now, and in the intervening years he's had plenty of nasty surprises that've sweetened his disposition considerably."
"Indeed, who better to teach him about that path than someone who's already been there?" Soran smiles wryly at you. "Metalicana can handle him. And if not, well, my large friend here tells me Metalicana's in pretty good claws himself."

Niles the Oceansurf Magus
• Former teacher of Poseidros

"When young Poseidros' sister began displaying a talent for Water magic, it was thought that he had the same abilities. Niles was brought in to tutor him. To the Magus' great consternation, however, Poseidros actually proved to be a Wind Adept, with his skill in Water manipulation being only middling at best. Niles was quite disappointed by this at first, but he has since come to terms with things, and he and Poseidros are now firm friends. He occasionally travels with his student: He is contained in a special glass orb that Poseidros can carry around. When Niles is not traveling, he continues teaching Water magic to interested drakes and other beings."

Haroun the Serthis Alchemist

"Haroun trained as a poisoner, but late in his studies, he realized that this path was not for him. He disliked his and his parents' clans' internecine wars and found a way out by joining a caravan of dragons that was passing through the region. He stayed with that merchant group for some time, acting as a medic, before managing to gather enough skills and funds to enroll in a dragon-owned school. Learning magic and healing arts from other races has sharpened his skills a great deal, and he now serves the clan as an apothecary and nurse."

Lamprey the Flamescale Illusionist
• Partnered with Templeton

"Old Lamprey was quite unhappy with his clan's volcanic home. This, coupled with his willingness to work with dragons, resulted in him being exiled. He made his way to the Sunbeam Ruins in search of employment, and we hired him to create illusions to conceal Templeton's and Heurodys' jungle home. Heurodys doesn't seem stable enough to work with him, so he coordinates closely with Templeton instead. They get along quite well, all things considered. And he doesn't mind the isolation and general dampness of his new home, which is a great plus."

Saravi the Venomblade Assassin
• Friends with Vanessa

"Before she came to our clan, Vanessa briefly trained as a warrior, and it was during this time that she met Saravi. The two of them became friends, and though Saravi eventually went on to live as a mercenary, she was largely unsatisfied with the missions involved and found them to be more trouble than she was paid for. She reached out to some of her old contacts, including Vanessa, and let it be known that she was looking for a more comfortable job. Nowadays she guards the clan nursery and playgrounds. There's something to be said about having an assassin as your children's bodyguard -- some drakes say the word is 'insane'. Whatever their opinions, the arrangement has worked out well so far, and Saravi has never been anything but professional and reliable."

Ajisai the Wandering Surgepriest
• Friends with Rajin

"Ajisai is the clan's Talonok Ambassador. Occasionally, tengu will stray into the Sunbeam Ruins and onto dragons' territories. Ajisai comes from a clan of peaceful Corven who have made their peace with dragons and want to see their wandering brethren return to normal lives. She provides spiritual guidance to any tengu who are directed to her and connects them with clans who can help them reintegrate into society. On days when there are no patients or diplomatic duties to tend to, she assists Rajin with preparing her divination equipment."
