Biography
x |
A progenitor’s first clutch has a lot of importance to a fledgling clan. A sign of a new beginning, a symbol of hope, a representation of life. But with such importance comes responsibility and expectations. Ever since he was a hatchling, Dajin knew he and his sole nestmate Galaeron would have both a lot of meaning and a lot of stress as children of Sarihlle and Frir. Galaeron, a Guardian like his mother, took after her and trained to become a warrior in her stead. Dajin, on the other hand, a Fae like his father, found a similar interest in record keeping. He would help his dad organize the medallions and distribute the badges that members of Gladehaven have earned individually and as a whole. But while Galaeron earned the rank of second-in-command of the Matriarch’s soldiers, Dajin remained at home, managing logistics. There wasn’t much to do; the clan was small, and most of the time, he felt useless. He was intimidated by his brother; he held no animosity, but felt unable to match to his prowess. And so he yearned to have something to call his own, and prove his worth to himself. “You want to leave?” Sarihlle asked, surprised, but also saddened. “I know, I know, I’m young, the clan is young… but I think it’s best for me.” Sarihlle looked to Frir. Though usually, he looked to her for advice, right now, as a new mother, she had little experience to rationalize from, and needed external input. Frir looked up to his mate, and then to their son, his frills pinning down with worry. “Please let me,” Dajin pressed. “I… I want to go on a Charge.” “A charge?” Frir questioned, one frill perked up in confusion. “Yeah, a Charge. Like mom. I— I just— I think I need to find a purpose in life. A place in society. I know being a firstborn son is important and all, but… I don’t feel like I’m much else. I want to find myself as a person.” Dajin’s frills pinned back, his lack of self confidence showing through like clear glass. “Please?” His parents looked at each other, and with hesitance, nodded and gave their consent. They didn’t want to hold their son back if this was his wish. And with that, Dajin was left on his own. Dajin didn’t travel far; nearby was a small clan in need of some management assistance. There he took on his father’s role as record keeper, finding a knack for proper information documentation. He managed much of the clan below its leaders, but the clan as a whole felt much slower than his home. Though he did more work than before and invested in his interests, there was an aspect Dajin couldn’t pinpoint that made him feel… off. It took many moons for Dajin to process this feeling. The clan he was in simply hunted and gathered, ate and slept. Occasionally, a few dragons would pass by the local market, but infrequently. Even if Dajin could do everything right logistically, there was a part of him emotionally that needed to catch up. He was an intelligent Fae, but couldn’t figure out what part of him felt missing. But eventually, he realized, that was exactly it - something was missing. And what was missing was a sense of family. Dajin was lonely. Though he performed his job well, he had no friends, and mostly stayed secluded scribbling his thoughts and plans into his personal tomes. Looking to the west, he felt a gentle breeze on his shoulder, as if it was pushing him in that direction. He thought of his mom, his dad, and his brother. Did his brother seek his own Charge? How was the clan doing now? Dajin missed them more than he realized. And so, he thought it was time to go back. Dajin departed his clan without any fanfare. Though it had been quite some time, there was a sense that he knew how to get home. Whenever he felt lost, the wind would guide him, rustling the leaves in just the right way, or blowing away branches that opened up new paths. The dust in the wind swirled at his feet, directing him forward. He picked up on the clues and eventually found himself in front of a massive, bustling clan that was just as familiar as it was not. But despite how different it looked, Dajin knew it was home. Sarihlle and Frir did not expect their son to return. But as he walked before them, all three were beaming with joy to be reunited, and he embraced his father with a running leap, his mother coddling them both within her arms as she laid down around them. Since his return, Dajin was adamant in meeting everyone. He became acquainted with every dragon in Gladehaven, proudly introducing himself as his parents’ firstborn son. Everyone around him immediately accepted him back into their family. It was then that he learned that his parents had adopted two more children - Luciel and Treesong - who each felt out of place in life and needed to be rescued. In a way, Dajin related; he felt out of place, but it was he who rescued himself. And now, he felt fulfilled enough to find a purpose in the clan. Dajin blabbered to his dad about all the record keeping he managed in his other clan, telling him all of the things he organized and kept flowing, all the dragons he saw enter and leave, all the profits his clan made, all the “It seems like you’ve managed a lot,” Frir interrupted. “I— yes, I was helping the clan leaders with many things,” Dajin stammered, his frills sinking sheepishly. Frir hovered over and rested a fatherly paw on his son’s shoulder. “Well, it sounds like you’ve got a lot of practice under your wing. You know, with how big Gladehaven has become, your mom and I certainly need some help around here…” Dajin’s frills perked up. Frir continued. “I noticed how excited you were to meet everyone in the Clan. It sounds like you would be an excellent candidate to keep a well-organized and maintained list of all the members in our clan,” Frir teased, “As well as their jobs, their skills, and the like.” “A census?” Dajin’s frills fanned with excitement. “That sounds exhilarating!” It really did take a true nerd like him to enjoy such a seemingly mundane task. Frir’s frills fluttered with laughter. “I think you have yourself a job, Dajin.” And a job he had. Dajin has since enthusiastically kept a thorough list of the clan’s members, their roles, their jobs, their hatch days, and more. He’s still one of the first dragons to meet new members of the clan, and is never without his tome to keep track. That is, his current tome; his work has spanned several by the present, and are an archive for his clanmates to observe and reminisce over, as well as study for those seeking potential jobs or inspiration to hone their skills. Dajin’s impeccable record keeping impressed the whole clan, including the clan exalter, Ancient. Together he and Dajin now work in tandem to record members past and preset of Clan Gladehaven. To Dajin’s surprise, his brother had not yet left for his Charge when he first returned to his home. But when he saw his brother again, Galaeron became inspired to travel as well. Though he valued his training under his mother, it did not feel like his Charge to simply replicate her. Instead he sought to travel outside their elemental domain, in hopes he would find his Charge beyond. “Wait, you— you’re inspired by me?” Dajin’s frills shot up straight in shock “Absolutely,” Galaeron answered. “Why wouldn’t you? You’re my older brother. I couldn’t find my Charge at home, and it seems like you found yours once you came back. Maybe I’ll find mine abroad — but I promise I’ll come home, just like you.” Dajin’s frills evoked a smile. “I know you will.” | x |
