They say she fell from the stars.

______Tonight was the night of a glamorous meteor shower. The clan astronomer, Savil, had prepared for this event well in advance, with his telescope out just in time. Tevinter and Sandmint were naturally by his side to witness the event alongside him. Cassiopeia, Ambassador to Arcane, and Nightqueen, friend of the wildclaw trio, came along to share the moment as well. All over Clan Gladehaven, and surely throughout the Viridian Labyrinth, dragons were staring at the night sky to see the wonders it would bring.
______A star fell from the sky, bright enough for the northern flights to see. The Labyrinth truly had the greatest show of them all, much to the envy of the denizens of the Starfall Isles. The flash garnered many "Ooh!"s and "Ah!"s across the clan, followed with claps and laughter of impressment. As the show faded out from its grand finale, the dragons dispersed to settle in for the night. However, a large crash startled them, and piqued the interest of Savil immediately. While everyone was confused, he was convinced it was a meteor.
______The Matriarch
Sarihlle sought Savil out for his take; he insisted he wanted to investigate. Tevinter and Sandmint chimed in, naturally, that they wanted to join too. She nodded with approval, and the three set off towards the site of the supposed meteor.

Her eyes had attuned to the land.

______In fact, she doesn't remember her fall; her eyes were closed. She was aware that she was falling, but not much else. The crash hurt, for sure, but she was alive, and able to stand, albeit painfully. She blinked her eyes open, her vision blurred and spinning as she tried to see where she was.
______As her vision cleared, she observed her surroundings. She landed in a large field, circled by dense forest. The sky was clear, sparkling with millions of stars. Something about them felt familiar, though she couldn't tell what. It felt... comforting, like home. A gut reaction drew her eyes to her paws, and on them, she saw the same stars in the sky on her skin. A peculiar look, certainly, but it didn't bring much of a reaction out of her; she simply found it interesting, but felt normal.
______A firefly landed on her nose. Eyes crossed, she tried to inspect it, but merely grew dizzy, and stumbled, causing the firefly to fly off. Yet it stayed near her. After a moment's rest, she looked around, and noticed several of its friends were fluttering around her. The impact drew the attention of the nearby colony, but now, they seemed attracted to her. She didn't mind.
______She liked this field that she landed in; it was quiet, with a soft breeze blowing from the west. The pain in her entire body almost became bearable with the serene scene around her. But its serenity was merely momentary, for she heard a stir in the distance. She jumped.
______Despite her aching body, she posed defensively towards the noise, instinctively. Her crests, however, were pinned back, fearful. After such a traumatic entry, she was vulnerable, and had no strength to attack. She could only wait.

"It's... a dragon?"

______Savil stood in a mix of shock, frustration, and wonder all at once. Where he had expected a meteor, instead, a dragon was losing their balance. He had wanted to study what had landed, had it been inanimate. But this was something much greater than a mere rock.
______"We should check to make sure she's okay," Sandmint input. Tevinter agreed with a firm nod, but Savil's nod was distracted. As they stepped forward, though, she flinched, and her crests pinned harder.
______"Stop," Savil softly snipped at the other two. Though he wasn't normally the diplomatic type, something compelled him to be so here. This was a dragon that seemed to have fallen from the night sky itself; in a way, he felt a sense of ownership, as the clan's astronomer. He took a step forward, and she looked fearful.
______"I won't hurt you," he told her. He took slow steps, one by one, towards her. Her shoulders relaxed, and soon she too would take a step forward towards him. Once close enough, he put a hand out for her; she sniffed it. How strange, Savil thought.
______Her fear subsided after she recognized him as benign. She looked up at him with bright green eyes, uncharacteristic of her purple form. Though she was unaware, Savil speculated instantly: the fall had created so much magical energy that it attuned her eyes to the Labyrinth itself. Her fall made her a Nature dragon. She must not have had any element before; but, she was no hatchling. How could she have had no element before? Where did she come from? Rather, what was she?
______His fascinated imagination zapped away as she lost her balance and collapsed. She was injured, no doubt. Savil yelled back to the other two:
______"She's hurt. Get Galaeron and Luciel. Quickly!"

They had many questions, but she had even more.

______It was a relief when she awoke. Galaeron's strength carried her to the safety of the clan, and Luciel's magic held her from reaching death. Her pain was duller, but still there; bandages and braces decorated her body. Yohualli kept a close eye on her as she stirred from her sleep to ensure they didn't come undone. Yet many more eyes were on her out of pure fascination; in fact, Sarihlle had to divert the numerous curious eyes that followed, so as to not overwhelm the poor dragon. Her rescuers and caretakers were the only ones allowed to stand by. To the interest of them all, the fireflies stayed with her, and refused to leave her side.
______She was conscious, but still unable to speak. Luciel made the call to allow her more time. He spoke to her gently, comforting her while casting his healing magic on her. Yohualli thought this was an excellent opportunity for Luciel to have his first patient of his own. For the duration of her recovery, Luciel diligently tended to her, and even without words, she could express her appreciation to him.
______In time, he was the first to hear her voice. As she spoke, his mind burst with wonders and questions, but hers had millions more. Before any of them could be asked, she weakly made one statement:
______"Please thank... the dragon... who found me."

BwyScT2.gif
VW2D3at.gif
She had no name.

______Time passed since her fall, and now she was able to walk about with ease. The care of Luciel had saved her life, and for that, she was grateful. She was grateful for many things, but the list became endless with each passing day. She simply did her best to include herself into what she assumed to be her new home as a form of encompassing gratitude.
______One such thing she appreciated was the food she was given. As meat eaters, Savil, Tevinter, and Sandmint introduced her to their favorite dishes. She took to them with joy, gobbling each as politely as she could. But hopefully, her smile and laughter was enough repayment. It was for Sandmint at the very least.
______Finding it an opportune moment to start conversation, Sandmint inquired: "So, where are you from?"
______"I don't know. The sky?" the mirror laughed, sarcastically.
______Savil jabbed Sandmint with his elbow.
______"What?" Sandmint asked.
______"That was a dumb question," Savil retorted.
______"Well, yeah, but how else am I supposed to ask it?"
______"It's quite obvious that she likely doesn't know how to answer it at all."
______"Okay, okay, fine," Sandmint huffed.
______"I wish I knew," the mirror added. "In fact... I don't remember much at all. I can speak, I can function, but I can't remember. It's frustrating."
______"What about a name; do you have a name? Can you remember?" Tevinter inquired. Savil thought this was worded much more eloquently; Sandmint called bias.
______"...No? I don't think I have a name. I... can't remember, at least." Her crests drooped at the lack of a solid identity.
______Tevinter's charm kicked in, and he spoke as if he was following a script: "Then why don't we give you one?"
______She smiled at the thought.
______"What about... Stellarosa?" Tevinter suggested.
______"That's too dramatic," Savil combatted. "I suggest something simpler, perhaps Astra?"
______"That's so booooring," Sandmint chimed. "Like, yeah, it's pretty, but I don't think it's fitting. She's got a story to her, and her name has to say that! Look at her, she's got stars all over her. What about Starfall?"
______"I like the sound of that," the mirror agreed. Her crests perked with interest. Though defeated, Savil and Tevinter supported her approval.
______As she spoke, a couple friendly fireflies landed on her crests, and one on her nose. This time, with the reflexes she lacked before, she cupped the firefly in her paws, and brought it down so she could look at it more closely. It faintly glowed, even in the light of day, not unlike the stars of her hide.
______The stars on her paws were much more noticeable to the wildclaws she sat with, resulting in Sandmint voicing a realization: "Hey, look at that little guy! He looks like a star, like on her!"
______Savil added: "They came to her when she fell. Almost like stars joining her from the sky."
______Tevinter teased, "Look at you, little star catcher."
______After a moment's silence, the mirror repeated her friend. "Starcatcher..." She smiled. "I like that the most." Tevinter grinned pridefully while the other two glared humorously at his success, resulting in laughter. Confused and embarrassed, she frowned. "What, is that bad?"
______"No, no!" Sandmint chuckled. "It's Tevinter. He's proud of naming you."
______Tevinter inspected his claws vainly with a smirk. "I have a way with things."
______Savil jabbed him for that comment, and they all laughed again.
______A giggle came from Starcatcher, making her smile again, and she felt better.
______She liked her new name.

She tended to walk alone.

______She felt appreciative of all that she had been given. She had a new home, new friends, new family... it was comforting beyond expression. Yet there was an itch in her that she couldn't quite scratch.
______Despite all the new friends she had made, something left her feeling out of place. She wasn't from here, and she knew that well. All these other dragons knew who they were, where they came from, and what purpose they served. She, on the other hand, only felt lost. Her smile satisfied many, but didn't satisfy herself. She had no salve for the pain she now felt.
______It became habit for her to walk alone, away from the clan. At social gatherings, she became anxious, and frequently left early. The wildclaw trio did their best to comfort her and cheer her up; many times it worked, but sometimes, there was a disconnect none of them could explain. It was times like these that she preferred to be alone, to contemplate her life. It left her deeply depressed.
______One of her walks brought her towards a decorated cave. It wasn't too far of a walk from the clan, so she assumed perhaps a dragon was there. At first she shied away, but then mustered the courage to explore. She had a feeling, if there was a dragon, they would be alone.
______She was right.

He had seen, but the sands said wait.

______Dawnrey spent most of his time comfortably in the cave he called home. He's close enough to be a part of the clan, but far enough to satisfy his introverted nature. He's learning to socialize more, and feels more welcome than he did before, but even he needed time away. The festivities were a tad too much for him now, but that didn't prevent him from watching the sky just as they did. He saw the falling star, and smiled at its wonder.
______Likewise, he heard the booming crash that echoed beyond the field. It piqued his interest, but something kept him from going. The wind picked up, and some sand tumbled at his claws, a gentle nudge to stay inside his cave.
______"Why do you want me to stay?" He asked aloud.
______After a pause, the wind blew the sand in towards his cave. He knew how the sands spoke, and understood its message.
______Whatever fell would come to him in time.

The two looked at each other, and saw no stranger.

______Though they had never met until this point, they both knew. Starcaller could tell this dragon was alone, but felt compelled to give him company. In return, she had a sense that he would provide her with wisdom. Dawnrey, on the other hand, knew immediately that this was what the sands had told him. It was hard to process that a dragon could have created such a rumble, but, in his gut, he could tell it was right. The wind blew from behind her, encouraging her to step forward. He felt the breeze, and his suspicions were confirmed.
______They spent the whole day together, talking, learning, and enjoying the company. She was an enigma that didn't exhaust him; he, in turn, gave her the advice she had sought in herself. Their budding friendship was unexpected, but sincere.
______"You don't feel bad, being alone?"
______"I don't," he told her. "In fact, I need it. Other dragons tire me out. In truth, I never felt like I fit in anywhere. The land is where I belong instead." He gestured around him.
______"I don't know if the land is where I belong," Starcatcher worried.
______"Who knows?" Dawnrey reassured. "Maybe it's like a Guardian's charge. You'll find what it is that brought you here. The sands knew of your arrival. You obviously created a lot of magic when you landed. I think you have a purpose you're just not aware of yet."
______"Thank you," she replied, "but, uh... the sands?"
______After she spoke, the wind picked up, brushing sand over her paws. It felt protective.
______Dawnrey smiled at her. "Those are the sands."
______She smiled back. Whatever force this was, she could believe in it. She could believe in Dawnrey. And through him, she started to believe in herself.

Though she felt alone, she learned that she wasn't.

______Dawnrey's advice resonated with her, and gave her confidence. She would visit him frequently, feeling excited to stroll with a purpose rather than aimlessly. Her depression was fading with time; she spent more time with Savil, Tevinter, and Sandmint, realizing their affection for her. She felt safe once more, but her social anxiety was her final barrier to true comfort.
______Aside from the friends she made, Starcatcher tended to stay to herself, watching others from afar. She didn't feel ready to interact with them all just yet. She needed the right introduction. That introduction came in the form of a highly animated spiral named
Jellybeans.
______Jellybeans, much like Starcatcher, was very, very different from the rest of the clan. Instead of having one set of eyes, or two like a mirror's, she had several sets all along her long, twisting body. Some people were discomforted, while others were fascinated, not unlike Starcatcher's arrival. Yet unlike Starcatcher, Jellybeans never felt wrong. She's always liked her eyes, and her confidence has carried her through all of life's burdens.
______Though young, Jellybeans already knew she wanted to perform magic for others; she was an entertainer at heart. She and Sandmint easily became friends, frequently trading ideas for jokes, pranks, and tricks. It was through him that she learned so much about Starcatcher.
______Despite her social nature, she kept several eyes on Starcatcher from afar, not wanting to overwhelm her. Truly, though, that was half the issue; the other half was her own heart. Just looking at her made her blush, and she'd get tangled up in embarrassment, which she assures, is a lot more uncomfortable with eyes all along her body. Nevertheless, she knew one day she wanted to say hi to this beautiful dragon.
______Sandmint, a reliable friend as always, kept an eye on Starcatcher for Jellybeans. When he spent time with his spiral friend, he'd let her vent out her feelings for the mirror. Much like he helped Tevinter and Savil start dating, he had a feeling Jellybeans needed that little kickstart as well. He promised that as soon as he could tell Starcatcher was ready, he'd tell her.
______That day came, and Jellybeans confidently puffed her chest, and strode to go talk to her crush.
______Starcatcher was simply minding her own business as Jellybeans soared over. The mirror was drawing pictures in the dirt with her claw up until the colorful spiral approached her. She looked up at her curiously; she was a little nervous, being approached by someone new, but the more she looked at her, the more she couldn't take her eyes away. Unfortunately, she was too nervous to make the first move.
______Though she felt prepared initially, Jellybeans froze as their gazes met. Starcatcher's bright green eyes were so attractive in contrast to the shimmering blues and swirling purples of her coat. She hoped very much that Starcatcher couldn't tell how nervous she was.
______Eventually, Jellybeans managed to let out, "Uh, hi, hello!" to the mirror.
______Starcatcher pleasantly replied, "Hello there!" to such a friendly face.
______This was the start of something grander than the two could have ever imagined.

A bond can come from out of nowhere.

______Her friendship with Jellybeans was something she never could have predicted in her life. The two seemed like such polar opposites, but worked in a synthesis that left the two inseparable. For Starcatcher, seeing Jellybeans so confident in herself despite her striking appearance and many strange eyes made her feel better about her own uniqueness, and she felt a trust and comfort in her she felt with nobody else. They laughed, they played, they spent every moment they could together. Sandmint, from afar, smirked smugly, knowing his encouragement was worthwhile.
______It took some time before Jellybeans could confess her feelings to Starcatcher, but was the best decision she had ever made.
______Starcatcher was immensely flattered. In response, she went to Dawnrey, and asked him to help her scavenge a gift she could give her; a token of her affection. Though usually such matters felt trivial to him, Starcatcher had a special place in his heart, and he helped her find the perfect trinket with joy. During an excavation by the beach, they came across a brightly iridescent fluted conch. Starcatcher's eyes twinkled, and she knew that was what she had to give Jellybeans.
______When Starcatcher returned, she came with a satchel slung over her shoulder to hide the gift. Jellybeans tilted her head curiously as Starcatcher retrieved the conch, but gawked at the beauty of the shell before her. Starcatcher handed it to her, but Jellybeans was in too much awe to think. Her eyes sparkled, her hands excitedly came up to her grinning mouth, and instead of grabbing the gift, she tackled the mirror, sending them both tumbling over. She kissed her, again and again, to the delight of her new mate.
______She didn't forget to pick up the conch after.

AHXUQvp.gif
pDACUOg.gif
Her journey had been long, but it is far from over.

______Starcatcher had come along away from her origins. From a lone dragon with her fireflies newly crashed into an open field, she now had countless friends, a safe home, and a loving girlfriend. An unlikely dragon made unlikely friends, but brought everyone together inn a way nobody else had done so before. So much has happened, but for once in all the life she could remember, she felt content. She finally felt like she was home.
______She would look to the stars every night, wondering where she truly came from. There was a hole in her past that she wanted to fill. Was she truly made from the stars? Did she only begin to exist as she fell? She couldn't tell, but now, she wasn't so concerned. What mattered to her was her present: she had so much and more, and that made her happy.
______Even with all the joys in her life, the words of Dawnrey echoed in her head. She had a purpose, and the sands knew it. However, something inside of her told her she still hadn't figured it out. But for once, she didn't worry. It would come to her when the time was right.
______The sands would tell her when it was time.
