COSMOS
Elder - She/they  Everyone’s mother, grandparent, adviser, and confidant. Cosmos personifies the universe in its entirety. Space and time. Our progens got a lot more than they bargained for when Astraeus said he knew “a few faes” that could help them out. Cosmos came with over ten other members of the family she’d created. Almost every culture has a very similar creation myth for the universe and everything in it and I wanted to represent that in the clans dragons. It vaguely goes in the beginning there was the universe (our Cosmos here) and from it came the world, the sun, the moon, and life itself. On the world there was the sky, the sea, and land. Life came in the form of plants (Flora&Herba) and animals (Fauna&Piscis) that spread out everywhere. And with sentience (people like me and you) came ideas and understandings about how everything that had or will come to be worked. Thus the various deities (Hekate, Freya, Saga, Persephone, etc.) responsible for different parts of the universe. |
Personally I don’t believe in any conscious deities. But they make good representations of ideas. Sometimes it helps to bring grand larger than life concepts down to a more rational level by personifying them. And when you think of religion as a tool to understand the world a lot of folklore starts to make sense. If you don’t know why the seasons change maybe it could be that the goddess of spring is also the dread queen. We figured out the minutia of pollen, biology, and medicine long after people knew local honey helps with allergies. Magic and science go hand in hand.
