Biography
BUBBLES Pythia stared into the blue depth of the Seer’s Pond. She could feel the power emerging from this place, but it eluded her. It was alien, strange and not meant for her. She was an outsider here. Doomed to feel the power of this ancient magical place but not able to harness it. Sometimes she wondered why she even tried. Was it because her parents would expect that of her? Or was she just used to meditate every morning, trying to see beyond the veil and fail time and again? It hadn’t been very different in her old home, the Sea of a Thousand Currents. Even there, she only caught glimpses of visions, never truly understanding what exactly she saw or derive any meaning from it. She sighed. At least she was free to pursue other activities here after her eventual morning failure. No one expected her to stay at the pond, staring into its unfathomable depths all day. Maybe she could visit Nautilus and listen to his stories about sea monsters and heroes. His stories reminded her of home, the tales of her childhood. And he was a rather handsome dragon with his lightning blue eyes and shimmering runes. But it was still a bit early for his weekly storytelling event. Or what about that new arrival with the sad icy-blue eyes? She would like to hear his story, how he had found his way here, to the hot jungles of the Viridian Labyrinth. But he rarely visited the Pond, instead he was always roaming the Shrieking Wilds, a thing she could never do. She didn’t even know his name. What a shame. Maybe she should just go looking for Siren. Her Maren friend was always full of ideas on how to make an ordinary day extraordinary. Sighing again, Pythia turned away from the smooth surface of the water. Only it wasn’t smooth anymore. Small bubbles were rising to the surface, first only a few, then thousands of them. Like the water was suddenly boiling. Pythia stood transfixed, not able to move or look away from this bizarre spectacle. Suddenly, her view kind of shifted, she could see something moving beneath the surface of the water, she could smell damp earth and … was that blood? This didn’t make any sense. Panicking slightly, she tried to move away from the water but her legs wouldn’t obey her. And neither did her eyes as she desperately tried to look away from the images that were forming in the water. A cavern deep below the ground, damp and dark, a dragon tethered to an iron pole with rusty chains … his red eyes were alive with malice and staring right back at her. Pythia gasped and tried to scream but no sound would pass her lips. He laughed, a mad and dark cackle. Horrified Pythia watched while he struggled against the rusty chains that bound him, they looked so weak and creaked ominously while the dragon thrashed around in a mindless rage. Eventually, one link of the chain broke, and then another, and then another until he was finally free. When he realized that the chains were holding him no longer, he stopped his rampage. Panting, he looked up and his red eyes seemed to pierce right through her soul “Revenge, my dear, …it’s time for my revenge…I’ve been waiting so long…”. With immense effort Pythia finally managed to break free from the Vision and she stumbled to the ground. Her screams alerted every dragon at and in the Seer’s Pond who rushed towards her. Shaking like a leaf, Pythia gasped for air. If this was her heritage, she had been mad to regret her lack of talent and visions. She could hear the dragons around her talking, presumably asking her questions but she couldn’t understand them. There was a loud ringing in her ears, the echoes of screams. She vigorously shook her head, but the sound lingered. As did the smell of blood and damp earth. She felt soft paws on her shoulders, and when she looked up, she saw the Clan’s priestess Usako standing over her. She looked at her with honest concern and while her cousin and warden Loras dispersed the crowd, the petite Pearlcatcher lifted her up in her arms with unsuspected strength and carried her to the Seer’s cave. She seemed to know that Pythia couldn’t hear her, at least she didn’t even try to ask her any questions. Instead, she gave her pen and paper as well as a hot mug of tea. Smiling encouragingly, she beckoned her to start writing down what she had witnessed in the waters. Still shaking slightly, Pythia took pen and paper into her paws and started to write down what she had seen. She only hoped this would be her first and only vision. How could she ever have been so foolish, being blind to the future was a blessing, not a curse. |
ORIGINS | There had always been some “seer blood” in Clan Lazar, though it had never been very common. In an environment as unpredictable and hostile as the Plaguelands, where strength matters more than intellect, those with an affinity for soothsaying and clairvoyance were often frowned upon. In retrospect, it became clear that they should have better listened to the warnings of their oracles. Those few Seers who survived the illness were further decimated by the hostile invaders and eventually banished from their home with the rest of Clan Lazar. Hoping that the closeness to the Tidelord would strengthen their clairvoyant abilities they settled deep within the Leviathan Trench in the Sea of a Thousand Currents, hidden from prying eyes. Their plumage became water-repellent, its patchy blueish color lets them blend in with the dark blue tints of the sea. Those born in the Sea of a Thousand Currents received the ability to naturally breath water instead of air and most never leave their wet element. If they do, it becomes apparent that many if not all suffer from severe muscle dystrophy which is usually masked by the reduced force of gravity in the water. Furthermore, allergies to spores and pollen are very common. They are the most reclusive family branch of Clan Lazar, mistrusting and secretive. Nonetheless, the Seers are proud of their heritage and like the rest of the now widespread bloodline they only have one goal: reclaiming their homeland. |
FAMILIAR Siren did not accompany Pythia from the Sea of a Thousand Currents but is a native Maren of the Seer’s Pond. The two met shortly after Pythia arrived and they both share a love for gems and jewelry. Siren is a bit of an outcast in her tribe since she prefers the company of dragons to that of other Marens. She even visits the marketplace and tavern, carried by her friend Pythia. No other Maren would bear the shame of being carried around but Siren enjoys her time “out of the water”. |
CHARACTER & SYMPTOMS Symptoms: Like most of her bloodline Pythia suffers from weak muscles and is most comfortable in the water. On land, she is tires very easily and her movements are slow and awkward. Though she is able to fly, she has to rely on upwind to carry her for longer distances. Pythia is also allergic to most flowering plants and being in the Viridian Labyrinth has made her asthma worse. She refuses to wear as mask as she finds it “disfiguring” and spends a lot of time submerged under water. If she leaves her wet element she mostly does so during rainfall or shortly after to reduce the exposure to pollen and other allergens. |
