My Research
Now, I'm not a dragon to write my research down. Thanks to my huge noggin, I am able to remember things just fine. But Old Leon told me to write things down.
In case all the good things die with me on battlefield. That would be unfortunate. As much as I hate writing, I must learn to enjoy it somehow. Or I might burn my paper, and myself along with it.
Though I'm still young in my years, I have recently began studying dragon sub-species. Much to the dismay of my patients. In Unwavering, we already have a few that allowed me to experiment on them as test subjects. Everything is humane, don't worry!
Familiar-Dragon Hybrid: Well, I don't know what to call them yet. They are still pretty uncommon to find casually. As the name suggests, they are a clash between familiar and dragon. Many find themselves comfortable either in BeastClans, or DragonClans, which ever they feel best. It's similar to the concept of sexuality.
Most of them remain with general dragon anatomy. But with little familiar features, which is a bonus, aesthetically and anatomy wise. These features usually serve no purpose and are vestigial. One example is Ayaka, our astronomer. In the plain eye, I would have not even suspect that she had familiar blood until she told me. Ayaka is an example of what I call, a magical hybrid of the familiar, Rhodochrosite Crane. Rather fascinating.
Ayaka’s previous ancestors supposedly did not live in the same area of the Rhodochrosite Crane, then how is there a genetic admixture between these two wildly different species? I suspect it has something to do with a leyline fluctuation!
Chimaeras: Chimaeras are elusive creatures. Not even the scholars living in the Labyrinth know much of them. It is the main reason I am so interested in Chimaeras. We have one living within the walls of the Unwavering. Our little hunter, Coriander.
Coriander is one of a kind. She’s a hybrid between dragon and Chimaera, yet she still retains the features of a dragon and the abilities of a Chimaera. That is different with another case. Another Hybrid that I met during my journey through the Labyrinth. Anastasios, a secluded researcher had found the lone chimera hybrid which had the features of a chimaera, but the elemental and cognitive abilities of a dragon. Particularly a Wildclaw. So this begs the question.
What even is a Chimaera hybrid? Can it even be considered a dragon subspecies?
In the case of Coriander, I think yes. But in the case of Anastasio’s chimera, I have no idea. Maybe more research is needed on this one.
Let’s finish with the origins of Chimaeras. Onto the abilities of a Chimaera.
They are dangerous creatures. With their shape shifting abilities, they’re able to shift into anything they desire. Though it seems this activation of the Chimaera ability uses magic, so a magical seal can be placed to prevent any transformations. Shifts are limited by physical size of the original form. With the example of Coriander, she is able to transform into a goat. But an Imperial-sized goat. I wish to never see that again.
