Biography
"Peace be upon you."
|
There is something a bit otherworldly about Azedarach. His colors are gentle, serene, speaking of celestial skies, and even when the light is dim, he sometimes seems to glow. Or perhaps it would be better to say shines, his blues and whites seeming bright enough to give off a light of their own. His presence is calming too, like being gently wrapped in peace and silence. For some reason, most dragons find it difficult to look right into his eyes, avoiding it without ever realizing that they're doing so. But those who do are always started to see their deep violet, as they'd somehow expected to see golden Light eyes, without really knowing why. In fact, Azedarach is not exactly a dragon, or not quite. He's something more like a celestial spirit who happens to currently inhabit the body of a dragon, or at least one close enough to pass for one. His eyes do not denote a birthplace, or indeed any connection, to the Tangled Wood, but he lets it be assumed that they do. In fact, he goes to great lengths to act as though he is simply another normal dragon, albeit one whose magic is a little unusual. But the nameless clan with whom he currently dwells is full of unusual dragons with equally unusual powers, so he goes mostly unnoticed. Only the clan's leader, Jeanne, knows the truth about him, and part of his condition for joining was that she swear to keep silent on it. Azedarach's magic is a strange mixture of light and fire, that he wields in ways most dragons of either element would never dream of. Swords of blindingly bright light, intricately interlocked wheels of fire, and a vast sense of overwhelming fear leave all enemies blinded and cowering before him. However, he uses them rarely, only when it is truly necessary for him to fight. Most of the rest of the time, he prefers a peaceful, but watchful existence. He barely, if ever, seems to sleep. He prefers to stand as a sentinel on the high crags that overlook the clan's lair, keeping careful watch over their territory, and the entirety of the Ashfall Waste. There was a time when Azedarach was not bound to the form he takes now. There was a time when he was a powerful celestial spirit, a being of light and majesty, too terrible and wonderful to directly behold, and the powers he could wield made what he has now look like children's playthings. Before the Pillar was built, before the deities were born, his kind watched over Sornieth and all that lived on it. But Azedarach committed a great crime, one that even now he will not speak of no matter what. For his punishment, he was cast from the celestial sphere, bound to the form he now takes and the region he now inhabits. Azedarach hopes beyond measure that should he protect this place he was assigned to, watch over it diligently and guard it from all threats for as many centuries as it takes, then his once brethren will see his change of heart, and welcome him back into their ranks. ~by Mirrorstone |
