Biography
|
They found Azazel’s egg by the edge of the Abiding Boneyard, a soft, pulsing, green thing with the suggestion of a dragon inside. They didn’t know why they brought it back, looking after a hatchling wasn’t going to be convenient at all, but they all felt a strange urge to protect the egg until it hatched. It hatched in the clan, the membrane breaking and a weak, wormy creature with patchy green scales wriggling out. That was the moment their trouble with Azazel started. A retired scavenger named Levi took him in, a sweet mirror who felt sorry for the hatchling’s helplessness. She named him Azazel, after an old myth, and took him back to her home. But as soon as they were out of sight, she saw his sweet red eyes close, and a slit open on his forehead. She recoiled in horror, watching the skin peel back like it’d been cut, revealing a third bulging eye in darker red. It rolled around, winking briefly in the new light, before seemingly latching on to Levi. That was the last thing she remembered. Dragons saw Levi walking round for a few days after that, stumbling as if she was blind, her eyes glazed and green, coughing more and more. She passed away after a week, and Azazel emerged again, now fully grown. The next dragon was Enoch, a rugged Imperial, then Abra the fae. Each one fell sick after Azazel’s first visit, some surviving a few weeks, others only days. The clan soon realised that his talent lay in sapping away the life force of a dragon over time (though nobody knew about his third eye - nobody had seen it and survived). They started directing him to dragons that wouldn’t be missed, then to dragons that they wanted gone. Now Azazel works as an assassin, the clan giving him targets to feed on, and him controlling and killing them. He enjoys every second of it, stalking targets for days and getting close to them before unleashing his parasitic powers. Nobody knows whether his powers made him this sadistic, or whether his power comes from his desire to leech off people, but he doesn’t have much empathy for his victims. His only kindness is towards his collection of plants, which he keeps to sap energy from in the time between assassinations. Although his home is a riot of plants and greenery, anyone who enters has to beware the snake in the grass. ~by DTEvie |
