Biography
Behold my female Progenitor; glorious isn’t she?
Fishhead did not hatch from an egg. One moment she did not exist and the next moment, she simply was.
“ P̴R̷O̸-̴G̷E̶N̷-̸I̵-̴T̸O̵R̵... ̸F̸O̶R̵E̴-̵M̶O̷T̴H̶E̷R̴... ̸Y̸O̵U̴ ̷A̶R̸E̸ ̶A̷ ̷B̷E̸G̴I̸N̴N̵I̷N̶G̵ ̴A̵N̵D̶ ̵A̷ ̸M̷E̷A̴N̶S̵ ̶T̷O̸ ̸A̶N̵ ̷E̷N̵D̷./S̶T̵A̸R̷T̷ ̷Y̷O̶U̴R̴ ̴L̴I̶N̷E̸ ̸A̵N̵D̶ ̵S̴P̸R̵E̸A̶D̶ ̷M̸Y̶ ̸P̵E̴S̶T̴I̴L̸E̵N̷C̵E̵... ̶Y̵O̷U̸R̶ ̸W̷R̴A̷T̶H̷... ̵I̷S̶ ̶M̴Y̷ ̶G̷I̶F̷T̴... ̵Y̴O̵U̸ ̵F̷I̵G̷H̵T̵ ̷F̸O̸R̶ ̶M̷E̴ ̴A̶N̸D̷ ̵N̸O̴ ̶O̶N̸E̸ ̷E̵L̵S̵E̴.̸...”
She and herself alone started this den of dragons, however she has not had a stable role in running it since the original years she founded it. Instead, FishHead allowed a more welcoming crowd of hatchlings with which she reared with, a Wreath Plague Priest, to do any critical management or biddings.
”They’re up to something, I can sense it.” She pauses, considering, “Yes, I can feel it in my bones.”
A pair of fiery amber eyes busied themselves by practically burning a hole through her scales. Hm, if Surf had something to say she better do so aloud. Just because she was a patient dragoness didn’t mean it was a gift to be tested.
“How can you tell?” There was a note of curiosity and wonder in the envious tone. So young still and yet so far away from that vivid hatchling Fishhead had taken under her wing all those years ago.
“When you get to be my age you just know these things. It will come to you in time, I suspect.” Surf blinked, huffing to herself, seemingly unsatisfied with the reply.
“Hey!” the younger dragoness yelped as a rosy wing shot out to cuff her over the head. Serves her second in command right, Fishhead tolerated a lot things, none of which were insolence. That was a lie. But she wasn’t in the mood to humor it tonight. “Stop fretting, it won’t make the days pass faster. If you’re going to act like that you might as well make yourself useful and send out a hunting party.”
“Why? We have plenty of food already.”
Fishhead narrowed her rubescent eyes at her student, “Around here there is never enough food, don’t be fooled by bouts of prosperity. We’re hungry dragons by nature,” she turned her head, staring off somewhere into the distance. “Nothing will spoil before it’s eaten with our numbers, and even if it does, we’ll eat it regardless. That is our way.” They are strong. They are Plague. Without them, there was no circle of life, only a half moon that would wan out of existence entirely, for what is life without decay and disease?
Plague defined mortality, it gave meaning to all life, and they were not to be overlooked.
Her words resounded with Surf, who nodded at the sage wisdom. “True...” an acknowledgment was made, with intent of furthering the conversation, “But, a clan is only as resilient as it’s leader, afterall.” she grinned playfully at Fishhead.
The matriarch didn’t so much as twitch, “I’m well aware that you have a gift for flattery, Surf, there is no need for a reminder. I’ve grown soft,” she grumbled, and she had. In her prime Fishhead would have cut rivals down tooth and nail. Now, she only sat idly as one ran her den for her. A competitor she reared nonetheless. How much longer would simply commanding the respect gained from her golden days be enough? She pondered to herself silently, purposefully ignoring the Nocturne’s appalled expression.
“Stop it.” Frowning, Surf rested her weight against the large Dragoness, “I hate it when you get like this, all disparaging and morose. Leave the wallowing to someone else. Do you know why they follow you? I’ll tell you why: it’s because you’re so strong. How many command a Ratlord? How many can cut down a Spiny Whale alone? A clawful at best!”
Ah, and this was why Surf was to inherit her throne when she was gone. So much passion in one body. She would make a great ruler eventually, but not today.
