Biography

Ashsong, Flock Second
Patron god: Mertisal, god of Water and Freedom
Eyes: silver|Gender: Slipstream
Age: ~650
Mates: Thunderlight, Cypress, Terracotta
Role: Deputy, Adviser, Manager
Alignment: Neutral Good
Thunderlight adjusted his glasses, peering over the lenses at the dark grey mirror before him. "Can you, uh, repeat that, sir? I'm not quite sure I heard you the first time," he said quietly, fiddling with his scarf and checking his tome.

"Of course, of course!" Ashsong chirped happily, fluttering his sparkling, red wings and jangling his wing bands. "And you don't have to call me sir, Thunder--hey, why don't you walk with me for a while?"

As Thunderlight reeled with the abrupt change of topic, Ashsong bounded off down the corridor, pausing every few moments to make sure the fae could keep up. The two made their way to the Garden in silence, unusual given the mirror's incredibly talkative nature. But then again, Ashsong was also gifted at reading the atmosphere, and he could probably tell that his current company preferred peace and quiet.

The Garden was as soothing at always, the steady sound of trickling water mingling with melodic birdsong and hushed conversations of others. Ashsong led the fae to a bright corner, enchanted light pouring from the prismatic crystals hanging down from the high ceiling. Even though the Waypoint was still young, Bluehour's and Rosevine's work in the Garden had transformed it quickly into something beautiful. It was like paradise brought to life, with flora and fauna from every reach of Sornieth and then some, all contained in an underwater cave that was too large to comprehend.

"Now, what was it that you needed? Ah, yes, this week's schedule!" Ashsong flopped over on his side, sunning himself in the multicolored light. The Flock Second flicked his tail good-naturedly and bobbed his head. "Midnight wants the new guests interviewed before they leave, both by you and by Quantaca. And if Surelight isn't too busy, an extra sermon for the new arrivals." Watching as Thunderlight wrote all that down, Ashsong added, "Remember to ask if you ever need anything! I'm the Second, so it's my job to help you out with anything and everything. Also, could you remind Poiesis to get a copy of Gladekeeper: A Complete Anthology? I'd do it myself, but I can't seem to find her..."

"Absolutely, of course," Thunderlight assured the mirror. "I do, umm, have question," he said, barely managing to not say 'sir' at the last moment.

"Ask away! It's what I'm here for." Ashsong shifted to better face the purple fae, his golden accents shifting and shining under the swirling light.

"It's... Well, it's just, I'm very thankful to you, and the rest of the Waypoint, for giving me a home here, and I know I'm new, and it might be presumptuous..."

Ashsong made an encouraging noise but otherwise didn't speak, and his kind, patient gaze emboldened the shy fae.

Thunderlight took his tome from its holster, opening the enchanted volume reverently. "May I interview you, Ashsong? I have the time now, and if you do as well..."

"An interview? Why, Thunder, that's wonderful! By the Eleven, I've never been interviewed before. I hope it isn't too hard... Will I need to speak all fancy-like... er, formally, I mean? Ha! It's just so exciting, I feel like I'm gonna burst! Is right here okay, or should we move to your office? Or is your office too small for me? Hmm, well, the Archive should be big enough..."

Thunderlight flicked his crest happily, feeling amusement bubble up inside him and come out as a small chuckle. And to think I was nervous to talk to him, he thought, reveling in the mirror's genuine joy of something so simple. Midnightsun certainly chose the right dragon for the job, if Ashong can get even me to laugh.

"Right here is just fine, Ashsong," Thunderlight said. He held his book in one talon, quill on the other, and his inkwell balanced safely on his tail. "Our first question: the names of you parents, if you please..."
"I, Ashsong the Singer, vow to do all in my power to heal the wounded, defend the weak, and shelter the outcast. My loyalty is joy, and my joy is loyalty; all my loyalty to the Waypoint and those we serve. On my life, music, and wings I do swear."

"a long kept secret will soon come to light"
