Falco

Named for one of my most prevalent OCs! A pain in my rear end since 2012, Falco is an Adumbranite, a vampiric-esque humanoid that has umbrakinetic (Shadow controlling) abilities and feasts on specific 'blood foods' instead of blood. His familiar is a reference to an old concept of dominant shadows - Adumbranites have the capability to bring them to life, in a sense (they’re extensions of their inner selves that take on a physical form). His was a mongoose named Sable. I've loved mongooses ever since I was little...Rikki Tikki Tavi was my favourite Rudyard Kipling Just So Story. PERSONALITY Charoite is a snarky yet charismatic young man with a strong sense of freedom. He is confident in his abilities as an Adumbranite and he shows adeptness and resilience when controlling his powers, though they can fluctuate based on his emotions. He prefers to avoid big conflicts unless he is dragged into them or he is affected personally. However, his curiousity may kick in just enough for him to stick his nose where it’s not wanted. His more altruistic side can also rear its head during these times and, given impulsivity issues, he’s just as likely to give into it as to ignore it. He likes to put charm and charisma into his taunts whenever possible and backs himself up with violence when he needs to. That being said, Charoite is well aware of how crappy and offensive his attitude can be, and if he doesn't feel like people deserve his respect then he's not going to give it. He

expects nothing from people and refuses to allow anyone to fight for him or control his actions. When they do either of those things it makes him mad. He enjoys both irritating and flirting with people because it’s easier than making friends. As such, he is not one to trust too easily and calls people out on their ******** often. He also likes to bite people (sans venom) if they linger in his personal space too long.

Once he feels settled in an environment he becomes more mischievous, his insults taking on a playful rather than harsh tone. Any friend he does make he treats with some degree of respect, though he has more patience for children/youths than for adults. He can get rather protective in an elder sibling sort of way, despite pretending that he isn't interested in their wellbeing or interests. His want of freedom extends to others- he believes people should be allowed to choose their own life path as long as it doesn’t impede anyone else’s. People who take away that autonomy for selfish/villainous reasons are seen as an enemy and he feels compelled to stop them even if he doesn’t physically. Charoite is also a sucker for good company, shows interest in learning new training methods and likes to have a drink or seven. He has a crass sense of humour and is very open about his bisexuality. He also openly admits it was his choice to become an Adumbranite. Charoite knows very little about his Adumbranite heritage, though he’s heard stories and met a few of his kind. He’s never been part of a hive and never wants to be. His decision to separate himself from his culture has made him unpopular with people who flaunt their heritage as a good thing, as well as other Adumbranites.

Charoite likes to have a certain degree of privacy with regards to who he is and where he’s from, so he chooses to go by a bastardisation of his middle name (or names that other people give him) rather than his first name. He chooses not to say anything about his backstory unless it's something he can twist for dry comedic value since, in his own opinion, backstories are better left in the past. He is afraid to lose what autonomy he has gained throughout his life, so does his best to preempt any form of manipulation by strengthening his stubbornness/resistance when attempts on his psyche are made.

Charoite has no shame in partaking in embarrassing activities because of his fluctuating self worth. Because of this, he can find himself in situations where he is outsmarted which makes him feel uneasy. His one major phobia is dragons, compounded by an encounter with one near the beginning of his journey (that was a direct result of an earlier tragedy). He wishes to get over this fear, and thus exposes himself to his new family’s morphs whenever possible. He’s managed to integrate himself within their society, going so far as to participate in an initiation ceremony. He likes to show his girlfriend every new thing he obtains, and gets a little sad when he’s off-dimension and can’t do that. Although he may profess his indifference, he truely cares very deeply for his girlfriend and his new family and would defend them with his life if he had to.

It’s a take on his middle name! The eldest boys in the Scott clan had birds as their middle names.

- He has a small black and white bunny named Mr Snuffles! Skarlette got her for Falco on their anniversary. She is loved so much that she is treated like a baby more than a pet. She sleeps in her own deluxe little bunny condo and is left in the care of the family when Falco goes off on adventures.

- Adumbranite comes from "Adumbrate"[VERB WITH OBJECT, formal] : 1) Represent in outline/ Indicate faintly. This is because they use shadows to form solid, liquid and gas-like constructs that look and feel realistic, yet are just vague substitutions for actual materials.

SPECIES SUMMARY Zachary is an Adumbranite: an Umbrakinetic, humanoid species that is distantly related to vampires. It is separated by many years of evolutionary pressures due to a decrease in habitat. This was caused by encroaching human urbanisation and the development of Monster Hunting Syndicates. Forced into smaller pockets, the Adumbranites had to adapt to diurnal life in order to avoid detection. They congregate around a main hive complex that consists of several houses on estates/a large dwelling with multiple rooms. They go out during the day and night in small groups, generally keeping to themselves and taking inconspicuous jobs in society. More affluent Adumbranites can and do hold public offices, but wealth is shared amongst the community.

Adumbranites developed Umbrakinetic (shadow manipulating) abilities early on to help protect them against the sun’s rays, which they honed and refined as they built up resistance. Their abilities are both internally generated (that is, they can use their own shadow and the dark areas inside their own body) and externally generated (they absorb surrounding shadows from the environment). They can create tangible objects and weapons, wisps and other shadow constructs like tendrils with shadows, though they are not a true replication of such objects and have a 'shadowy' appearance. This species appears to have developed a symbiotic relationship with the darkness, as some Adumbranites are able to create constructs even while sleeping. Legends tell of a great sacrifice the early Adumbranites made to the Moon and Stars for their soft light and protection in the waking world. Even in modern times, most Adumbranites refer to the night sky with great fondness and affection, holding small gatherings and festivals during total eclipses in their areas.

There are two types of Adumbranite: Turned and Pure. Pure Adumbranites are born into a hive as Adumbranites, whereas their Turned counterparts are non-Adumbranites (more human/other) who became Adumbranites via venom injection. They are also capable of multiversal travel utilising a sigil known as the Zegnalis Portal, accessing the Void (the vast empty space between universes and dimensions). Turned Adumbranites are not capable of converting others as their venom is not potent enough. All Males cannot breed outside of their species to produce Adumbranites and are thus sterile; the mother would not have the necessary venom developing qualities needed for viable offspring.
