A little girl born the day my grandad died. It was in 2015, but I wasn't on site then so yeah. Time flies huh ;v; It was also the day Mum learned she had Lymphoma again, so it was kind of a bad day all around. Grandad might be gone, but Mum's still here. So that's something good :3

3AElWCb.png RIP Grandad Mc, I love ya loads and I miss you every day. He had pigeons that he used to race, so I named this lil one after their genus! He also used to take me picking up with the dogs and on nature walks, and he taught me how to not inhale my dinner cx We also used to watch foxes together! He was a dude that marched to the beat of his own drum, but I like to think that when we did stuff with him he was really happy. He also really liked tending to his communal plot so we helped Nan make a garden in her back yard to save some of the plants that were there when he passed. Pigeon Adopt by Zodiakey.

The Enstatite Burrower's name is Barry, after my grandad. I got him for her because my Nan loves owls...plus my grandad was kinda grumpy! The chibi has the New Zealand Pigeon and an English breed.

The large bird genus Columba comprises a group of medium to large stout-bodied pigeons, often referred to as the typical pigeons. The terms "dove" and "pigeon" are used indiscriminately for smaller and larger Columbidae, respectively.

Columba species – at least those of Columba sensu stricto – are generally termed "pigeons", and in many cases wood-pigeons. This genus as understood today is native to the Old World, but some – notably the domestic and feral rock pigeon – have been introduced outside their natural range, for example in the Americas.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A Racing Homer is a breed of domestic pigeon that has been selectively bred for more speed and enhanced homing instinct for the sport of pigeon racing. A popular domestic pigeon breed, the Racing Homer is also one of the newest.
Racing pigeons were first developed in Belgium and England during the Nineteenth Century. They are the result of crossing of a number of other breeds, primarily the Smerle, French Cumulet, English Carrier, Dragoon, and the Horseman (now lost). From the high-flying Cumulet, the Homer received its endurance and its ability to fly for hours on end without tiring. From the Carrier, it inherited the ability to find its way home from great distances.
Pigeons have been used to carry messages for centuries. However, during the Nineteenth Century, the communication value of the bird—especially for carrying messages during war—became appreciated. Breeders competed to develop ever faster birds. Competitions soon developed, with pigeon racing growing into a popular sport throughout Western Europe and, beginning in the early Twentieth Century, in the United States. Large purses are offered for race winners.
All participants in World War I made use of the Racing Homer's ability to carry messages, with the British alone employing approximately 9,500 birds. The Second World War once more saw the major powers make use of the homing pigeon. A good racing homer can average 60 mph through the air for hours at a time, and fast racing pigeons have been clocked at 110 MPH.
