A mad ruler, Batu, used his vision of sacrificing dragons as his own means to "exalt" for his deity. Alma, his granddaughter, helped to lead a resistance to save the hatchlings from this fate. One hatchling, nearly fresh from the nest, was led away from his own home. Dazed and with no name, he was met by another Clan leader. One that heard of Batu's actions and welcomed asylum within her lair. Zyphus may have seemed almost as cruel as Batu, sacrificing enemy dragons. But her own were a different story. A clan was family, and she took the hatcling in as one. Naming him Lorcan for his attitude, which did not seem to settle despite his circumstances. It was not long before his natural magic began to flourish, in only the most accidental of circumstances. Seeing this, Zyphus assigned him to the two best magicians within the clan. Both spirals, Doluth and Makani were far more welcoming and easy going than their leader. Bringing the assigned student under their wings before adopting Lorcan. There he met two classmates, Atzi and Killian. Killian, who never met his father, was the most serious out of the trio. Atzi, came from a more tribe like clan of necromancers, who thrived off of culture and magic. In their culture, just the start of maturity is when you are an adult and must venture off to find your own path. After meeting the two spirals, she knew that she needed to learn more of magicka that was ever introduced to her limited tribe. The three stuck together, often as the disgruntlement of their teachers. Lorcan, not remembering about his hatchling life, was adopted in a way, by his teachers. The spirals were always kind and understanding, but they did not allow their adoption to make his classes any easier for him. And with his parents grading him, he was always hard on himself to make them proud. One day, during an alchemy class, they went over breed changing potions. Given its complexity, Lorcan knew he would want to use that potion during his final to show off his skills. Zyphus also found this out, and knowing that Batu was looking for him, used this opportunity to change his looks. She sent another clansmember to purposely sabotage his potion, which backfired during his presentation. He was bedridden for days, as his bones cracked and shifted into new positions. Lorcan could never have imagined the pain of a breed change, Unknowing of the sabotage, he blamed himself for failing to conduct the potion properly. Could he even truly call himself a magician? Atzi was the only one to visit him every day, it was then that they began to truly learn more about each other. With his bones still weak, he could not even read books. So she read to him. And when they tired of that, she told her own stories. Stories of her tribe, their religion, their rituals. Lorcan was fascinated, and awaited impatiently for her return after the end of classes to tell him more. The thought of such a community, a family, for a beginning. A beginning he couldn't seem to remember. It made him curious of where he was from. Were they a tribe like Atzi's? With their own religion or traditions? Why was his memory seemingly foggy of those days? No one remembered much of being a hatchling anyway, so he assumed he was being dramatic. Although he knew the spirals were not his parents by their species and breed. He began to wonder about his own parents, his biological parents. Were they dead? Did they abandon him? Makani and Doluth were overwhelmed when he began asking these questions. How could they tell him he was born for nothing but to be a sacrifice? So they lied, which only fueled his curiosity. He began playing out scenerios in his head once he returned to class. What his biological parents might be like, who they were, their positions in their own society. His grades began to drop as his mind wandered elsewhere. As if that had not impacted the two professors enough, they began to feel like they were only in the shadows of his real parents. Even though they were the ones there, the ones raising him and loving him. To be continued....
