In the dingy and crowded streets of the city, the remnants of forgotten clans tuck themselves away into the murk, nameless, faceless, and hidden. Nothing good ever brings a dragon here; the only reason to settle this deep below the roots is the desperate need to disappear for good. To find a home in Murkbarrow is to give up all hope of being free: no dragon has ever left the city, and no dragon ever will.

It was the rage of the gods that drove the Dusk Clan here, and here it will keep them forever. No shred of grace ever reached this deep into the gloom without meeting its match in the opening eyes of the Woods.

Youngest and most pragmatic of the Trio, Jasper quickly made his name as Cernnunos' protege. Due to the General's practical nature, he was taught to disregard the will of the gods in favour of adopting a more practical and direct approach to the clan's problems. Shunned by Redwing and Alluman for his blatant disregard of the Gladekeeper, Jasper was denied the responsibility of a clan leader, instead assigned lesser tasks such as scouting, negotiating and taking inventory.

Despite the disapproval of his siblings, Jasper's charismatic nature and his prestigious mentor awarded him high popularity within the clan, creating political unrest amongst the Trio's supporters. In an attempt to counter his rising influence, Centurion used the war of the First Seed as an excuse to frame and kill Cernunnos in battle, leaving Jasper bereaved and dishonoured.

Under Centurion's xenophobic regime, Jasper found himself unwillingly involved with a hidden rebellion led by Deri and Darvena. Exchanging his support for information, he blackmailed his way back into a position of power in the Trio by threatening to reveal Centurion's true motive for murdering Cernunnos. Infuriated, Centurion commissioned the bard Tessa to frame the rebels for murder in an attempt to once again defame her youngest brother. With the help of the dissenter Alexander Jasper was able to reveal the true motive for the murders, although not in time to prevent Tessa's false confession and the call for Jasper's execution.

Awaiting his death in the dark branches of the Behemoth, Jasper found himself haunted by strange whispers from the shadows. These whispers exposed Centurion's lie that the progenitor Tuolos had been spawned by the Labyrinth, revealing the Shadowbinder as the true patron of the Dusk Clan. While confronting Centurion with the truth at his execution, the frustrated, torn and angry clan broke out into a riot.

With Centurion dead and the Trio shattered, The Dusk Clan turned to Jademask to lead them. Jaded by betrayal and haunted by the deaths of his siblings, with a newfound hatred of the gods, he made the decision to leave the Statue of Stone and migrate from the Viridian Labyrinth to the Tangled Wood, followed by the curse of an angry god.
