"I don't really know where they went." He shrugged his enormous shoulders, dust falling from his rough, heavy scales. "But I'm here now, so I suppose that's where I'm meant to be. Even if it's not my home. Even if it's not where I was born, or where I once wandered- quite the opposite of that, really- this is where I belong now. And I would like to help here. In any way I can."

Dairon blinked, and then she rested a dappled, grey wing on his back. "I understand. Really."

He leaned into her scales, despite the intense heat radiating from her metal armor. "Thank you."

"It's nothing."

"In the meanwhile..." he chuckled. "Can you tell me who runs this place?"
