Laetoria loved exploring from a young age. As soon as she was old enough to leave the temple on her own, she began investigating the Sunbeam Ruins, and quickly amassed a hoard of trinkets she'd recovered from dusty temples and forgotten castles. Her tablets, fossils, jars, and statues were her pride and joy; she felt perpetually driven to recover, protect, and present them. She claimed a small structure near the temple and converted it into a museum for her ever-growing collection. But she is not the only one with an interest in the magic artifacts and treasures of the past. Traveling alone with the spoils of her adventures made Laetoria a tempting target for bandits and beastclans. And though a Guardian dragon is more than capable of fending off most attackers, it was only a matter of time before she found herself outmatched. As she moved down the woodland path, she walked straight into the Harpies' ambush, and this time they had numbers in their favor. They came at her from all sides, slashing her with claws and spears; as she snapped or clawed at one, another would grab at her treasures or attack her flank or her face, so she could never defend herself from them all at once. |
Even together, the Harpies didn't have the strength to kill her - only to rob her. But a Guardian does not abandon their Charge so easily, and Laetoria struggled with all her might, refusing to let her assailants make off with the artifacts. The battle raged on, producing such a din that it caught the ear of a pair of travelers passing by. An arrow struck a Harpy clean out of the air, and a streak of brown whisked past the startled dragon's face. A moment later the shape registered - a Longneck with a quarterstaff stood in fighting stance, a small smirk on her lips. Then the chaos resumed as the Harpies processed the newcomer's presence, some resuming their attack on the Guardian, some lunging at the Longneck, a pair taking flight to pursue something Laetoria hadn't seen; their attention divided between multiple opponents, the Harpies could not overwhelm their target, and those who were not killed quickly retreated. |

Laetoria turned to face the Longneck, uncertain whether she was friend or foe - and to her surprise, a beautiful green Fae landed next to the beastfolk. The Fae introduced herself as Sylvania, and the Longneck as her companion, Kusa. As darkness was beginning to fall, Sylvania invited Laetoria to stay the night at their camp. Suspicious as she was, Laetoria accepted. Though the tent meant for a Fae and a Longneck could not accommodate a Guardian, the weather was clear, and the fire kept her warm as she curled up around her treasures. They talked well into the evening. The Fae was a wandering woodsdrake who had never felt a need to settle into a lair. She lived off the land and moved from place to place as it pleased her. She, in turn, was interested in the Guardian's tales of adventure and exploration in the ruins that dotted the land. Laetoria's suspicion waned as she got to know her new allies, and by the end of the night, she had offered to bring Sylvania on one of her expeditions. |
One expedition turned into another, and so on. Laetoria found that having guides and allies in the woods and on the roads was a great boon, the new type of adventure appealed to Sylvania, and Kusa happily rolled with whatever life threw at her. The dragons became extremely close, and eventually admitted their love for one another, but Laetoria kept it secret from her clanmates. Where Sylvania went, so did Kusa, but Clan Araven did not take kindly to Beastclans, and the Fae would not stand for having her companion hidden or omitted. As the burden took its toll, the Guardian could bear it no more. She brought them to her family, Kusa riding on her back for protection, Sylvania perched upon her horn. As expected, the revelation went poorly, and Laetoria stormed away with her companions. Though she was hurt, she would not be kept away from Sylvania, and went on meeting with her despite her clan's protests, a choice that would ultimately work out in the clan's favor. At one of their scheduled meetings, Laetoria was surprised to find only Sylvania waiting for her, flicking her wings and crests nervously. The Fae explained that they'd seen a large gathering of Beastclans, apparently preparing for war, and that Kusa had gone to infiltrate this group and learn what they were planning, while Sylvania waited for Laetoria's arrival. |

The two dragons rushed back to where their Longneck friend had said she would meet them, and after several minutes of tense waiting, Kusa emerged from the underbrush with troubling news: the Beastclans planned to attack the Mirrorlight Promenade. With no time to delay, Laetoria carried Sylvania and Kusa to her home a second time. She shut the hostilities down with a forceful voice, demanded that the Dawn's Talon prepare their defenses immediately. Kusa slid down from the Guardian's back and began sharing what she'd learned, and the dragons listened. When the attack came, they were prepared. And from that day on, nobody questioned Laetoria's choice of mate. |
