Septima's life began fairly normally for a hatchling of Clan Araven, learning and playing with the other hatchlings of the temple. The stability of her small world, however, was shaken to the foundation one fateful day, when the tiny Guardian slipped away from her caretaker to play alone on the shore. Wandering farther and farther down the beach, she eventually saw a ship anchored just off the coast. Fascinated, she approached it. As she got closer, she saw dragons loading boxes into boats and rowing out to the ship. More boxes and chests littered the shore. Septima approached one with an open lid and, in innocent curiosity, stood up on her hind legs to peer over the edge.

And was greeted with the gleam of gold. As any dragon worth their salt, Septima was instantly fascinated. She climbed into the chest, onto the coins; the lid fell down over her, and the next thing the hatchling knew, she was being hoisted into the air. The chest was rocked and jostled and lifted, and finally came to rest in the cargo hold of the ship.
By the time the unintentional stowaway was discovered, the ship was well out to sea. Not knowing what else to do with her, the pirates - as the ship's crew turned out to be - pressed the young dragon into service performing minor tasks like fetching goods and swabbing decks. So it came to be that Septima entered into piracy.

As she grew, the Guardian became increasingly skilled and respected, and eventually was made captain of her ship. Having been quite literally raised into the role, she quickly became a fully-fledged terror of the seas, fighting and looting her way into notoriety. She expected nothing unusual when she and her crew moved to raid a coastal settlement in the Sunbeam Ruins, though she could not shake the sense that the shoreline was somehow familiar.

It was only when she burst into the temple to demand that the inhabitants hand over their treasures that her life took another unexpected turn. A purple Skydancer there called out to her.
"Septima? Is that you? Is that really you?"

Curiosity overtook greed, and the Guardian demanded to know who this dragon was - and she spilled one shock after another to the enraptured pirate. This was the temple of Clan Araven, Septima's birth clan. And the Skydancer, Vesta, had been her caretaker - and the dragon who had failed to keep watch over her the day she'd disappeared. The pillaging was ordered to an abrupt halt, and the bewildered crew bore witness to an awkward reunion as paladin and priestess met pirate - their long lost daughter.

Septima spent a night reflecting on her life and her newfound family. A lifelong criminal with no other skills, she could never stand up to the example set by her parents, but after all she had seen and heard, she didn't want to continue on her current path. Though she knew no other life, she was overwhelmed with the need to remain near her birth home. The following morning, she announced her intention to leave to the crew, put in her vote for the new captain, and went ashore from her ship for the last time.

But it would not be her last time at sea. She returned to the temple and explained her intent: she wished to atone and make herself useful to the clan, with what she knew. She could not be a knight, but she could still defend the temple with the skills she'd gained as a pirate. She would acquire a new ship, a new crew, and patrol the shore, ready to fend off any and all who would do Clan Araven harm by sea.

And their loot was hers for the taking.
