⠀ For hours I laid listening to the silence: the churr of the birds as they sang praise to the dawn, the creak of the tress as the wind caressed them, and the hushed hum of her breath as she slept. T'was because of her there was peace in my life, something steadfast and concrete that I could finally rely on, no matter how momentary it was. She was... different. The kind of different for which I would break my vow of isolation. I was rather glad she wasn't one of them, but rather the hauntingly radiant exception. Forging bonds was dangerous for a sworn Sidhe of the Priestess like I, dangerous to the Priestess and to I, to my misfortune. But a thief was laying at my side, eating away at my heart as she so carefully wove in. My eyes traced the shape of her delicate head. She hadn't been ready for that fight and I 'ought to have known better. Her beauty, forged in her beguiling innocence, was a sight I feared I would see for the last time as the winds grew warmer. The sun softly tickled the horizon's plants, signaling the Priestess's waking hour drew near. I feared what malicious greetings would await me upon my return, but, in this constant still of.. love... I hoped to forget. I arched my neck and gently settled my head on her back. At any moment she could be ripped from me. Her body shifted ever so slightly, causing my body to tense for I had not intended to interrupt her slumber. Wake she did not, to my relief, allowing my eyes to grow weary as the steady drumming of her heart began to overpower the sparrows' chorus. |
