Biography

Chomp Chomper of Things Not long after the Thundercrack Carnival, a freak lightning storm ... in no way caused by anyone playing with Lightning memorabilia acquired during the festival ... surged through the Sunbeam Ruins, leaving behind a very small dragon sizzling with electricity. Where did it come from? dragons of the lair wondered (and how do we put it back in the thunder cloud... or anywhere away from here?). (One does not simply abandon a baby, no matter how unwanted.) But the little creature couldn't make out any intelligible words, just noises of various kinds, along with happy smiles showing off lines of very shiny and sharp teeth. Only one word could be understood in the series of squeaks: chomp. "What was that, little, er... thing?" Beige, one of the Elder of the lair, asked the new arrival. "What did you -- ouch! Get your teeth out of my scales!" Orestes, another Elder, one who did not mind children, as long as they did not ask too many questions, laughed. "I imagine that might be his name. Good teeth." Beige hissed, extracting herself from the storm child's bite. "I'll keep it in mind when I need something chewed." "While we investigate where he came from," Orestes said, "I do have some gemstones I've been meaning to grind up. Let's put those teeth to good use!" |

Lore notes
It's Calathea's day off. The young Skydancer is radiant - he only gets one of these days per week. A day off means no courier work, but it also means doing house chores for the clan. It's nothing too hard or taxing though, just things like doing dishes, helping fix a broken plank, pick up water from the river - Cal now assigned to the last one. So he went - flying down from the wood house propped up against the canyon wall they called home, past the powerplant, landing right next to the river. Cal proceeded to pick up water, gently laying the bucket given by Lydia ("Only water this time. No pet fishes, got it?") into the stream. It was then that the young Skydancer noticed something shiny stuck between some rocks, almost being taken away by the current. Calathea quickly beat his wings, hovering above the stream as he picked up the thing - an egg. A shiny and pulsing one, with electrical currents swiftly dancing around it. It was a Lightning egg. Cal sighed, relieved - he knew that Raijin, the powerful Imperial that was the clan leader, would never allow any other dragon that wasn't born in the Stormcatcher's domains to stay within the clan territory. He'd have to hide the egg somewhere, or leave it behind - and he could never do that. Cal excitedly beat his wings back home to show everyone his amazing find; the bucket now long left forgotten by the riverside. - Lydiaaaaaa! Hectoooor! Guys? - The Skydancer landed on his hind legs as to not cause the egg harm, making the old wooden planks below squeak. - I found something awesome! |
It was actually Alistair, the adopted son of Raijin and Lydia, that heard Calathea's call first. The young adult Imperial walked to the building's entrance and lazily stretched himself. - All that screaming for a bucket of water? - He yawned. - Don't tell me you brought more fish. Or do, i can't wait to see mother kill you for that. - No, look! It's an egg! - The Skydancer happily showed his newfound treasure to his clanmate - It was all alone by the river... Think Lydia's gonna let us keep it? Alistair looked away for a second. Cal was young. He wasn't in the clan when the last egg had been brought. Alistair was only a hatchling when it happened, but he remembers all too well the fight between his adoptive parents because of what hatched from the egg - a Lightborn Guardian. Raijin didn't liked it one bit. Alistair never knew what became of the hatchling. - More like dad's the one you've gotta worry about... - He said, voice low. Upon seeing Cal's puzzled look, he retorted, his smug look back on his face. - Although this one seems Stormborn... If he's not a weakling like you, maybe he could be useful. - How do you know it's a boy? It could be a gi... Hey, don't call me weakling! - Cal puffed his cheeks up. Alistair only laughed, ruffling the younger dragon's feathers. - Ha ha, okay, if you say so. Look, mom's here. - They both looked up. Indeed, a great Imperial flew down to meet the two dragons. Lydia landed gracefully next to them, a few bags full of fruit and vegetables strapped to her back. |
- Hello boys. Cal, did you bring the water in already? - The Imperial pawed the bags. - I went foraging and brought back some fruit, i know you two are gonna like a lot what i found! - She stated, absent-minded from the shiny egg resting in Calathea's arms. - Uhh... No. But i found something even better! Look! - Cal shoved the egg in Lydia's face, earning a facepalm from Alistair. - Woah, calm down you! That's... An egg! Oh my. - Lydia went a step back. - Mom... - Alistair made it to her side, but Lydia dismissed him with her paw. - We can't leave the poor thing out in this heat, can we? C'mon, Ali, Cal. - She took the egg from the Skydancer's paws. Inside the cabin, Lydia placed the egg in a room designated for incubating eggs. It was equipped with a heater and a few makeshift nests made of blankets and pillows. - What do we do now? - Cal asked, earnest. - We wait. - Lydia said softly. |
And so they did. Quickly enough the other inhabitants of the powerplant caught wind of a stray egg being in the cabin's incubating room. Most everyone came by to visit: Hector the stoic Guardian, who laid a bit by the egg's side before leaving; Nyx the Stormstriker Ridgeback ("Oh great! Another mouth to feed right in the middle of a drought! Great timing there, kiddo."), and Raijin, the clan leader himself, who only peeked through the room's window, disappearing again without saying a word. Cal was the one who spend the most time with the egg; he even temporarily brought his own blanket to rest there at night. The rain season soon broke through the drought, even earlier then usual. It was then that, during the first thunderstom, a crack appeared on the egg, quickly followed by many others over the course of a few hours. Alistair was in the room when the egg finally started to shake. Alarmed, he rose up, stumbled through the blanket-filled room, and screamed for his mom. Not a second later, Lydia, Calathea and Alistair were around the egg, waiting. - Think he needs help? - Cal asked, looking at Lydia. The older dragon just shook her head negatively, smiling - No, dear. He needs to do this on his own. Every dragon needs to; it's one of many hardships in life. This is just the first of them. The Skydancer looked at her with pleading eyes. - Oh... What if he can't break through it, though? - He dies. - Alistair smirked, and Cal started to panic. Lydia only rolled her eyes. - No, then we help him. - She said. - ...Or her. - Alistair corrected. Cal looked at Lydia, offended. - But you JUST said...! - I know what i said, but- Look! He's peeking out! The three of them focused their attention on the egg. Sure enough, a little purple paw could be seen clawing its way out of the shell. A second later, the lights started to flicker out. |
The three dragons in the room were startled. - Think it's the storm? - Cal asked, nervous. - This shouldn't be happening... Raijin is there maintaining the powerplant today... - Lydia looked through the window. The whole building's lights were blinking. She was worried. Alistair broke the silence. - B-Besides, the power cables are underground, aren't they? They come from the plant through the canyon walls, right? Mom? But Lydia wasn't paying attention to her son's remark. She pointed at the egg. - Both of you, look! The child! From the biggest crack in the egg, a head popped out. A Mirror head. Alistair frowned. - Oh no, not a Mirror! These guys are a pain in the... - Suddenly, the young Imperial's talk was interrupted by the deafening noise of thunder. The hatchling was startled, and opened its eyes. Its bright blue, thunder magic-exhaling eyes. The three dragons were speechless. Not even 5 seconds later, they panicked. - WHAT DO WE DO? WHAT DO WE DO? - Cal screamed as the lights still flickered. The hatchling began to cry with all the noise, the electric currents that came from its eyes becoming more wild and dangerous. - The Stormcatcher! He's punishing us, sent us a curse! We're all going to dieeeee! - Alistair cried. - Shut it you two! - Lydia picked the hatchling up, trying to calm it down. - It's... A little boy. Calm down, sweetie. Aren't you a little cryba... Ouch! He bit me! And he wasn't willing to let go easily. Alistair gave a nervous laugh - H-Hey, at least the curse has sense of humour! - Don't call him a curse, Ali! I say we call him Chomp. He's good at it! - Cal said, trying to get the baby's teeth off of Lydia's scales. Lydia had never seen a dragon being born with such powerful magic before. Then it hit her. The flickering lights, the shortage of power in the whole plant, maybe even the early coming of the rain season; It was all caused by this little Mirror's surging Lightning magic. She hurried the two younger dragons out of the room. - Ali, i need you to find your father. Find him and tell him about this. Cal, i want you to find food for Chomp. Meat or seafood. Mirrors do not eat anything else. Go, both of you! The two young dragons left the room. |

Lore notes
- Chomp was brought to the clan by fate. His egg came down the river that passes by the powerplant
- He was found by Cal
- When he finally hatched, a shock: His eyes exhaled pure Lightning magic
- Raijin wasn't keen on keeping a Mirror on the clan ("Uncivilized creatures, savages!"), but upon seeing the hatchling's pure talent for magic presumably given by Stormcatcher himself, he was more than happy to keep the little Mirror around
- Was given the name "Chomp" because he, well, chomps. A lot.
- Cal absolutely loves him, almost like a little brother... Or pet
- Youngest in the clan, never says a word, only weird Mirror noises
- Is probably the strongest magic user in the clan, but is just a baby
