SWIRLS

"Your aura is no stranger to me. Let us be friends, and share a day together.”

I5p64Yz.gif
Swirls whirled around after hearing Herma call her name from behind her flaking, ripped maroon market stall. "The jar of acid ants is behind the black draped boxes, Herm!" Her boss shouted something back. "What? No! It's not labelled!" Another garbled shout. "Well, they came in ships this morning!" Turning back towards her client, who had a concerned look on his face, Swirls rolled her eyes. Sometimes, she wondered who was really running the stall. Channeling away any negative thoughts, she focused instead on her client, who was a stout little wildclaw, shivering in her teal scarf despite the breezy summer day they were having in Laternlea. "Sorry about that. Please, tell me what troubles you." Using her best healer voice, she soothed the wildclaw's nervousness and brought out her mother's cards, preparing her usual ritual spread. Let's hope she tips well, at least. As she continued her session, a sudden blast of warning pounded into her head like somebody slamming against hard stone. Without thinking, Swirls immediately knew that it was aura. Some dragon's magic aura was suffocatingly strong, and it was drifting around the markets. And they were nearby. Trying her best to keep her face expressionless, she allowed herself to make tiny observations from the corners of her eyes.

Everybody was doing their daily tasks behind their stalls, talking with customers, or chatting chipperly amongst themselves. Besides, Swirls knew all her stall neighbours; it had to be a tourist. A visitor. Somebody who stood out...her eyes landed on an inconspicuous group of dragons standing by a jeweler, inspecting the shiny, handmade goods. A fae, tundra, and spiral, travelling together. It seemed like the start of a bad joke. Yet...she stared a bit longer, her client fading into the background. Something was off. The fae turned and immediately their gazes meet as if fate had ordained. The pounding slammed her head again, and Swirls jumped up from her wooden stool. Who was that?

Native of Lanternlea Port, Swirls spent most of her early childhood with loving parents who were both talented and hard workers. Her father worked down at the docks, conversing with guardian fish traders, while her mother worked a popular fortune telling stall in the busy markets. As a hatchling, she was particularly skilled at using her natural aura senses to mediate and heal others' emotions, and so eventually, she became a regular assistant to her mother at her stall. Spending time with her mother learning healing magic and fortune telling was one of Swirls' favourite pastimes, and eventually, the two forged an inseparable bond. Needless to say, when her mother passed from illness, Swirls was left broken and devastatingly lost. All that was left of this beautiful, lovely dragon that she once cherished was a worn-out, detailed deck of fortune telling cards.

Her father quickly fell into insanity after their loss, and became unable to work. With the very last bit of her will to live left, Swirls attempted to continue running her mother's stall. However, she lacked her mother's charm and spark, so the stall eventually lost business. Desperately in need of work, Swirls advertised her magical talents around the Port. After a while, she befriended a strong-willed but dim-witted obelisk named Herma, who ran her own healing herbs and remedies shop. Soon enough, with Swirls's natural healing abilities, the duo became quite popular around the Port, and Swirls was able to make enough money to provide for her and her senile father. However, she was far from happy. She still lacked a goal, passion, or anything to make her feel as alive as her mother did.

When Poppy, Fret, and Odys stepped foot into Lanternlea Port, Swirls sensed Poppy's painstakingly strong magic aura from miles away. She knew immediately something was different about that little blue fae, and so she purposely invited them for a free healing at Herma's small with the intention to get to know them better. After Poppy explained her journey and story, Swirls was blown away. She was impressed by Poppy's strong desire and courage to traverse all of Sornieth, as well as the fae's immense magic capabilities. Swirls wanted to learn more magic as well. She knew that her mother would have wanted her to learn as much as she could. And so Swirls joined the group, with the astute promise that she would be their designated healer, something that would have made her mother very proud.
