It was all a hazy to him. He was hurt, this he knew. He couldn’t see, he felt like he couldn’t breathe, and pain all over. So he ran. He ran for as long as his legs would take him before giving out. All there were was the sea of flowers and the sound of running water. His vision was fading as he started to feel his body growing heavy. He groaned in protest as he felt his body betray him, collapsing to the ground with a thud. And then nothing...

྿

Time had gone by, he did not know for how long. He could see again, that was good but his body still hurt. He noticed he was moved and this unsettled him. He was now on a bed of straw in what looks to be a barn, quite different than the flowery field that he thought he fallen in. Or was it a dream? Movement catches his eye. He turned too quickly, his head spinning. A petaled female timidly came to him. He tried to stand but his legs screamed to stay put so he tried to growl. She held up on of her hands while the other held a plate of herbals.

“Shhhhh, it’s ok. You’re safe here. Let me give you more medicine and my husband has brought some food.”

He stopped. Her voice was soothing, words were comforting, and the promise of food was practically heaven. Was he sure he wasn’t dead and gone? He no longer made a sound or made any movement as she got closer. Her mate followed behind her. He could tell that her mate was tense and protective of her so in respect, he kept his head low.

“Do you have a name?”

A heartbeat passed. A name? Does he even have one? A whine passed through his lips as he worried. He shook his head slowly, not wanting to voice his fear. He already is weak, he didn’t want to sound it. He could see the female from his peripheral vision, smiling softly almost sadly at him.

“Then I will give you one.” She was quiet for a bit before continuing, “You found in the Lupine field, so we’ll call you Lupine until you remember your true name, if you have one.

He nodded and watched her leave as her mate lowered a platter of various cooked meats in front of him. He was surprised when the male smiled gently at him before also leaving him.

The smells were nothing he’s ever smelled before. Seasoned with some green stuff and cooked till slightly black. He was nearly in tears at how good it all tasted. Still unsure of this new area but maybe it’s not so bad?

྿

Dawn reappeared faster than expected. Lupine felt himself awaken to the sound of honeybees and again the sound of water. Cautiously, he righted himself up, taking notice of the bandages across his body. His legs wobbled a bit before he was stable enough to walk out of the barn to get a better barring of his new surroundings.

It seemed almost like paradise. He could see the flower fields and gardens on the left with a vast forest on the right. In front of him was a building like hill where he assumed the pair who helped him. He could see two massive imperials working on carrying logs. The darker one looks up at him and nods while the purplish one grins at him. Lupine nods back in respect before venturing towards the forest, following the sound of water.

He passed a few dragons here and there of various colors and subspecies. Hatchlings frolicked amongst the roots while a pale coatl with odd glowing stones on him, supervised the little ones closely. He passed another clearing, which looked like a training field filled with various warriors from different lineages. One catches his eye, a large male imperial with broad wings draped with a red banner and a red wolf pelt over him. That male saw him and came towards him. Lupine couldn’t tell if he should be threatened or not, but the imperial walked slowly so Lupine decided to see what he wanted.

“It’s good to see you awake my friend. You looked pretty bad when I found you. Luckily you landed in one of Nightshade’s various flower fields.”

Lupine nodded and weakly replied, “I thank you but where am I exactly?” His voice was softer and rougher than he remembered, he must have had more damage done than he thought. The male nodded,

“You have entered into the land of the Sea of a Thousand Currents. We live along the coast where the land is blessed with food and shelter while close to the water. We are known as the Gemini clan.”

Lupine listened patiently as he became acquainted with the large imperial named Seidhr. He learned about the various clan mates and about the land itself. He learned about the female, Nightshade, and her mate, Hemlock, helped him and plan to keep him with them for as long as he needs. Lupine also learned of how severe his wounds were and that his memory lose as well as weakened voice may be the results. He and Seidhr soon parted ways when Seidhr was summoned for more training by his trainer, Niji.

྿

He soon found himself alone again. He finally reached the roaring river and laid down to rest. He didn’t realize how much he hurt while learning about this new area. New smells, new faces, remembering where his bed is located...Seidhr seemed pleasant enough. Who knew that Seidhr was descended from Skoll herself? All this was almost too much, he was making his head spin. He laid his head down along the edge of the river bed, the grasses nearly tickling his nose. The water was so peaceful. It was calming like a mother’s soothing words. He wondered if his own mother talked as silky as this river. Soon he found himself drifting to sleep.

྿

There were screaming. There was fire. The flames licked his legs as he tried to escape. There are voices...he thinks they were voices.

'Sköll heitir ulfr,
er fylgir inu skírleita goði
til varna viðar,
en annarr Hati,
hann er Hróðvitnis sonr,
sá skal fyr heiða brúði himins.'

'Skoll is the name of the wolf
Who follows the shining priest
Into the desolate forest,
And the other is Hati,
Hróðvitnir’s son,
Who chases the bright bride of the sky.'

He tried to run. Everything was slow. The moon was up high in the sky and larger than he’s ever seen it. Everything was red around him. Pain and despair washed over him and then nothing but darkness. He was alone but then there was a soft blue light and there is where he knew he needed to go to.

྿

Lupine found himself jerk awake. Fear still rushing through his veins as he willed his heart to even back out to a steady beat. The pain in his sides started become more than just a dull pain. He groaned when he heard the soft sounds of someone walking towards him. That was when he saw her. She was the only one he has seen that was like him, her wolf-like features where slimmer, feminine, and she was more graceful that he could ever be. It was as if she was gliding along the ground. He tried to sit up to greet her but she placed her delicate hand softly on his shoulder to ease him. No words needed to be spoken. She smiled before looking out towards the river, seemingly captivated by the peace as he was.

There was soon rustling in some bushes. Lupine instinctively tensed but the female beside him was calm. Her laugh...her laugh was like angels singing...now he knows he had died. He could never witness anything so beautiful in his life. His nightmare of an existence cannot fathom such beauty. The cause of her laugh? Some hatchlings had emerged and tried to tackle the pair, but she thwarted them and kept their attention so they don’t accidentally hurt him. The same coatl from before came running behind them, obviously winded.

“Juniper, Mahira, Cloud, Almaric! What have I told you about running off!?” The coatl stopped when he saw Lupine. “I’m so sorry if they bothered you sir.’

Lupine shook his head, “They are no bother. I should be heading back to the barn anyway.” He slowly tried to get up when the female assisted him. The coatl turned to usher the hatchlings along while addressing her,

“Thanks for stopping them from taking off again, Acadia.”

“It was no problem, Arodan.”

Lupine’s heart nearly stopped when he heard her voice. She smiled up at him and helped him get back to Nightshade’s barn. The walk was quiet but not strange. It was almost familiar and dare he say comfortable. When they arrived, Nightshade and a Skydancer in green robes and a more mysterious Skydancer were waiting for him.

“Oh thank goodness! I thought you had taken off! I was so worried!” Acadia smiled up at him as he was completely shocked that someone was actually worrying over him. The green wearing Skydancer, slowly approaches him,

“I am Hou Kui. I am one of the clan’s head healers. Nightshade summoned me since she only knows the basics in healing. If you don’t mind I’d love to help clean and rebandage your wounds.” The other Skydancer remained silent, carefully watching before turning to walk away.

Lupine shifted nervously until he felt a small nuzzle. He looked down at Acadia and saw the reassurance in her pale eyes. He slowly nodded now fully aware of the pain he was in. As the healer checked, cleaned, and rebandaged him, Acadia never left him, calmly holding his uninsured hand. Only after the Healer gave him medicine to help with his pain and slowly started to drift asleep did she get up to leave, to not disturb his much needed sleep.
