Travellers’ child, abandoned by father. “He couldn’t stay and wait for you. They don’t wait for anyone”. Her mother has left shortly after Koush hatched. She was alone. But not lonely.
Clan haven’t abandoned her. “She’s one of us”.
And Kou made a new friends. Beautiful, cheerful fairies. No one else could see them, but that was okay. Uncle Elinur said that. “I’ve spoken with them. They like you, they just want to play, although they are very powerful magical spirits, remember that. Some of them will protect you with all of their might in the time of need.” He knew what he was saying. He had, still has, his own companions, more shadowy though.
“Why aren’t you scared of shadows and spirits?” “Because I play with them.”
Only two have stayed with Kou. Purple one, Avery, and pink - Eileen. “The rest of them had their fun. Those two, still want to have you as their friend.” “Why has she the same name as my mother?” Old shaman hasn’t had answer to that particular question, although he answered many, many other. He taught Kou ways of the shaman, how to properly communicate with spirits, how to make her own set of apparel from crow’s skulls and feathers, how to listen to water and air and earth and fire. He taught her everything he knew.
