No one in the entire Clan would say that Gareth is just a "member". He and Aresha ARE the Clan. Of course, after the death of Guaed (due to mysterious circumstances) Tajarak and Ladrian were first to join Mirror Lady. They cared only about their ship though, mainly because they'd broken it. It was Gareth who helped seize territory for the future clan.

He hunted for food and for the joy of battle. He had been chosen by Aresha to be her battle mate. He found Berenice and has never said anything against her claim to be a fallen constellation in dragon's form. He greeted Alarcia and helped her during her sickness and transformation. He also used to hate Rovenna because her beauty and fair minded nature reminded him too much of a past life he had once cherished when he was with a Lightning Clan.

Infected by one of the many Plaguebringer's prime maladies, he barely managed to escape a horrid attack from a clan of Plague Mirrors, leaving behind his dying Lightning clanmates that became too sick to even stand. The attacking Mirrors saw him as the only one worthy of life and left Gareth as the sole survivor.

According to himself, he's hideous and deformed; He had lost one eye and can no longer fly without artificial wings. His hide is heavily scarred and he'd lost two claws on his left forepaw. He believes that no one should be exposed to all of this, which is why Gareth asked Shadow dragons to cast an illusion of a new form, unscathed and powerful. He chose between the colors and texture of a Great Forge or Cosmic Energies. The Shadow Dragons were adept and generous enough to bind the spell to an orb which Gareth now uses to replace his missing eye, allowing him control to shift between each façade.

While he knows that Aresha would never care about his hidden scars, Gareth won't ever accept them as a part of himself so long as he has his illusions.
